Would love to get some input on what the thoughts are here on if this will be a total loss, or if it’s save-able from other examples you guys have seen. Long story short I hydroplaned and smacked the guard rail twice, once in the rear and the front. Not positive on if the frame is bent at all, I’ll be taking it to the collision center this Friday.

First time ever dealing with anything like this, any advice on dealing with collision centers would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the help!

Sucks man. :(

Depends whether the frame got bent or not.. it could be just quarter panel that got pushed forward.

Why would our opinion even matter? If someone says yes or no, it’s irrelevant. Get it to a body shop endorsed by insurance and that’s the important answer.

yeah your not wrong at all, any recommendations at all on a shop to go to? Currently look at Caliber Collision and Carstars. Like you said the opinion doesn’t matter until was the collision center/insurance says. Just looking for advice. On how to handle it. Thanks

Yeah sadly I chose the worst time to drive back, but no idea on the frame, all I can tell by looking at it is the quarter panel being pushed in, aswell as it bowing out right behind the glass by the roof line.

1st off, sorry for your misfortune.
This is simple. Our "opinions" dont matter. I say fix it but if your insurance company says it's totalled, take their payment and purchase another one.
It sucks but after all is said and done, it's a peice of metal and you weren't injured.

Just my 2 cents.

✌

Your right. Yeah the car definitely did do what it had to do to protect me and left the scene without any injuries at all. But definitely understand what you guys are saying on the opinion doesn’t matter.

I’m assuming since I hydroplaned and it only to myself you can’t claim diminished values on it could you?

Around here, Caliber Collision is to be avoided at all costs. Like Maaco bad. YMMV.

sorry to hear about the accident.

my guess is that amount of damage, if fixed correctly, would exceed the threshold where an insurance company would write off the car.

as a reference, someone backed into my front end and their trailer hitch cracked and push back my front bumper and headlight. from the pictures, it didnt look as serious yours does (visually, maybe 60-70% of your damage). the front sub frame needed to be replaced and realigned, front bumper and headlight needed to be replaced, and with labor it came to just under C$10,000.

maybe others with similar back end and side damage might be able to chime in and give you a clearer estimate, but from pictures, its hard to know whats the damage under the panels.

be glad there were no injuries, and that you have insurance to cover. In the end, unfortunately I don't think there's much say or discussion on how the insurance company values thresholds and settles...

good luck

Appreciate all the input and info you guys, yeah i will find out this friday and respond back with some news to keep you guys updated. The car did what it had to do and kept me safe which is the great part but RIP Suzy for now.

I'll just go to caliber collision as a first estimate and more then likely will not be going to them lmao. Never knew they were that bad based on the reviews online so thanks for the headsup.

First time dealing with any type of car damage to this extent, but i was told to go get 3 estimates and pick the highest one, but my insurance company State Farm makes it sound like i can only have 1 company picked at a time during the estimate? Help on how to go about that would be great aswell

I would recommend finding a Toyota shop that is associated with a dealership. That way you can tell the sales manager if they total the car, you want to buy a new one. That way you are not stuck with a car that was in a major accident. Good luck.

Like others said it's all based on if the frame is damaged or not.

For what it's worth when I got side-swiped pretty hard a few months ago, it was about $7000 before insurance to replace the fender, door, door garnish, and side skirt plus minor cosmetic touch ups to the side of the hood, the rear fender, and mirrors. I would imagine you're looking at lot more, but not "totaled" range if the frame is intact.

Just remember that the goal of the insurance company is NOT to help you. Get quotes from different body shops, preferably well known private shops from your local scene. The insurance company does not need to know all the numbers from different shops, they only need to know the one you decide on. Good luck.
