You must have drove them on the street. which ya is boring.

Go drive one in the smoky mountains or road course. a miata or brz has more than enough power.
They were twisty rural B roads. And it's not just that they are unerpowered; I just find the Miata and 86 boring af.. inside and out. ?‍♂

It’d be crazy to buy the slower version of a car in the hopes that the next guy will want it a little more.

I’m not convinced the manual will be worth more in the future, since people who own them say it’s not very good (even in this thread). I’m not sure that the people who will be buying these in 10-15 years will have the nostalgia for manuals that current buyers have. In the 90s and 00s, autos sucked and so manuals were the default for enthusiast cars. Over the last 10-15 years autos have gotten pretty good, so I don’t think people currently in their teens and 20s have the same mindset regarding autos vs manuals.
We let a 18 year old drive a manual for the first time in the summer and she loved it even when it was a horrific experience at first lol. I did kind of had some buyers remorse in the beginning getting the 2024 MT (I just have to have all my cars black and didn't want to get a red one which was the only auto available at the time) but slowly felt more in love with the manual version each day i drove it. And I think i'll keep my fast auto car as a AWD

Coming from a DCT R35 GTR, sporty autos are not cheap to maintain than your manual counterpart. I know the GTR transmission cost double of what the ZF8 is but thats still over 10k if anything goes wrong when you are putting down big numbers near 1000hp or more.

it will be interesting to see the future.
I think the newer autos 2023+ are going to be fairly rare and will hold there value well. Majority of cars coming out are manual trans. Prob by end of production say it will be 70/30 auto/ manual. Right now there's prob a $3-5k price difference in the market manuals being more.
Not in hawaii, both are priced the same, sometimes if you wait long enough ull get 5000 off MSRP cause they are hard to sell here with over 30 of them for sale all MSRP or less. But i agree, its rare to see a auto one nowadays, theres like 25+ manuals and maybe 1-3 autos for sale at any given time.

I got a manual bc I liked it and it's in blue.

Hope that helps.
I got the AT, then the MT, wrecked the MT because it was Gray, and am buying another MT, preferably in Blue..

BECAUSE IT'S MY MONEY AND I WANT TO SPEND IT NAAAOOOO!!

EDIT: Im editing this because a lot of people are singling out the part where i mentioned the trash talk, ill make it clear here that i dont care what people have to say about my choice in transmission: I’m happy with my choice, all together i made the post to just see what others thought about the 2 transmissions as a whole for a discussion. To the people that have given me flack towards my choice i shrug off but explain my personal goals as to what i hope to achieve on track ETC.

what are any of your thoughts on this as, well as who else got the zf8 transmission?
This place can get really toxic with people that are aggressive because they are behind a keyboard. I promise you that in person they would not be such jerks. here is my take on the decision:

1. Is this your daily? If yes, do you live in a big city with lots of urban traffic? Then Automatic
2. Are you planning to track your car? If yes, do you care about shaving the most time off your lap? Then Automatic is for you
3. Is this a weekend only car or you live in a small town, you are planning to track but not often and you don't care about shaving time of your best lap, then MT is for you.
4. Still not decided? Are you planning to Mod the hell of your car?, if Yes, then get AT because the mod market is more friendly to the AT version. (this may change in the future, is just market forces and if MT is not as popular in terms of market, then you will not see as many mods as the AT)

To me (and this is a big disclaimer, this is MY opinion), any other consideration about MT is either based on false ego, or popular culture. LIke:

1. MT requires "more skill"
2.MT is "badass"
3.MT "connects you better" to the car

I chose AT because my car is a mostly a track car, I have a daily (Its an electric), I grew up in the 80s and learned on, and drove for 25yrs a manual. I live in a big city with lots of traffic, and MT does not seem special to me.

I work on and tune these cars and the ZF8 is incredible. Very enjoyable to drive and don't have to worry about much. If it were my daily I'd go that route 100%.

Even though Auto is faster, I don't drive my sports cars everyday so I enjoy driving manual. Stops me from falling asleep I guess lol.

But I will say this, there is something so satisfying about manually banging out a perfect 2-3 shift. It's obviously slower but it feels rewarding.

On the other hand, when you whiff a shift and nearly money shift ... you question your entire existence the rest of the drive home in silence

I had no interest in these cars until a manual transmission was offered, but that's just me.

Remember the company that was offering manual swaps a few years ago? I was considering it, but couldn't stomach buying a new car only to have it ripped apart and modified like that.

1. MT requires "more skill"
It literally, by definition requires more (or if you will, an extra) skill. Like it or hate it, that's just a fact, lol. Some people who can drive automatics can't drive manuals. I mean this is moot. ?‍♂

2.MT is "badass"
Sure.

3.MT "connects you better" to the car
Again, it requires manual input every change so arguably, it does create a deeper connection but OK.

I live in a big city with lots of traffic, and MT does not seem special to me.
This is your only - and for the record, completely valid - reason.

Your mom is my ride
My wife and I were in downtown Austin having a rowdy night of drinking and dancing. We were walking along the street when we noticed a very loud convertible C7 sitting in traffic blasting obnoxious music, occupied by what looked like two twenty something year old trust fund bros. Soon it dawned on us as we were checking the car out that it was an automatic, and my wife in her very drunken stupor immediately just starts shouting at them "AUTOMATIC, SMALL DICK! YOU GOT A SMALL DICK BECAUSE YOU DRIVE AN AUTOMATIC! AUTOMATIC SMALL DICK, AUTOMATIC SMALL DICK" over and over and over at the top of her lungs right to their faces. Everybody in the crowds around us immediately started laughing and pointing at the two bros as my wife berated the shit out of them for driving an automatic sports car. The poor guys were so embarrassed and they couldn't do anything cuz they were literally gridlocked in traffic....

So obviously, my vote will always and forever be manual, and so would my wife's and yes she drive's all my manual sports cars. BUT, I won't be AS mean about it like my wife would be, especially since you couldn't even buy these cars in manual in the beginning.

All good points and I take them.
In my defense: I’m an old guy, so back in the day, when I was a teenager, AT was not a thing. Everyone drove manual. I learned to drive manual when I was 12. I never knew someone. That “couldn’t drive manual” because that’s all we got back then. I swear to you even an idiot could become an excellent driver with a manual transmission. No computers either so you did all your rev matching by ear.
Nowadays things seem to have changed and what was a very basic skill
has become some sort of specialized hardly attainable skill for the youngsters. Times have changed.
