For real.

I fear that's what this car will be.

The 2000GT is cool. I admire it for what it is. But I wouldn't want to own one.
Uses the BMW partnership to learn how to craft a proper I6 with great reliability and make it a freaking tank like the old supras of yesteryear.

Then make a dedicated platform for the supra. THere, perfect world?

Or just use the LS's twin turbo 3.5 with 415/442.

XD

I think Toyota doesn't want to share engines with Lexus and let them be their own corporation with their own tech.
Guess Lexus better get started on pulling the 3.5 out of its best selling vehicles.

Hmm What AM I driving?
I was just thinking about this but, I feel like as if we're parents. Our last Child was so amazing that we want the next child to be just as successful. When we first found out we're having a kid we're excited about all of it's potential. And then one day almost 8 months in the Doctor picks up some tabloid magazine and say.

Hey your kid will only be alittle better than your last kid, in fact your last kid is way better!

and some of us Parents are like "Oh no, the unborn kid is gonna suck, oh noes!"

I dunno man sounds like shitty parenting to me, the kid isn't even born yet and we're disappointed over what they could grow up to be...

Ok I don't know where I'm going with this, just think of it as another random Chikane Family analogy.

hmmm, LS's twin turbo 3.5 with 415/442 would be sweet.... and hard to know if Lexus would share engines with Toyota... to keep costs down that would be a reason to share....

We don't know the inner workings of Lexus and Toyota, but from the outside looking in, its amazing that they would rather partner with BMW then Lexus to find the powertrain for this car. Let alone building a halo car themselves.

Guess we will all just have to wonder what could have been.

But in the same breathe Lexus is still putting that same tired ass V8 in all of its sports cars.

Yes the V8 has been around for a while in different cars, but is a proven configuration and many today still prefer a NA engine...

That's what is discerning. You'd think toyota would give them money to learn new tech.

That car looks great and all, but it only comes in auto as well. Instantly dropped any thoughts on it.

I think everyone just overlooks how big of a factor weight is. If the rumors are true this car is going to be in another class altogether from the M2. The M2 is almost 3500lbs and still manages 0-60 in around 4.2, if the Supra really weighs under 2900lbs and has around the same torque as the N55 (369ft-lbs), then 0-60 in 3.8 is completely plausible. Corvette speed in a straight line, and gt86 weight, I'll take this car any day for ~$60k.

No one complains that the Cayman is a poor value for only 350hp for $67k starting. Like many sources have mentioned, the ethos of this new Supra is going to be lightweight performance. The only car I could imagine that compares to it might be the Alpine A110, which I believe is over $70k.

On a side note as well, things that have been hinted at include adaptive suspension/magride and an active wing.

You can't look at plain horsepower without looking at the weight of the car as well. I think this car is going to be one hell of a rocket. The first of it's kind to offer this kind of performance at an affordable price.
oh look, someone with a balanced outlook based on all factors... what a novel concept :)

Even better, we haven't driven one at alll and making claims.

I wonder what Car and Driver and all those publications will do when they receive this?
