You think the 3.8s was yanking our chains or the 4.8s? The 3.8s 60mph dash is completely unrealistic, unless it A) tips the scales at 2800lbs with 340hp, or B) pushes 400hp at 3300lbs. Neither of which are the case. Sadly the 4.8s 60mph time is probably closer to reality. Which is laughable if they call this a Supra.

For some perspective, the 3800lb 460hp 2018 GT with a brand new 10speed AT gets to 60mph in 3.8s. The 3700lb 455hp 2017 SS with an 8AT gets to 60mph in 3.9s. This thing won't be in the same ballpark.
I think they are yanking our chains in general, it is all to build hype and generate discussion. According to our insider curb weight for the top hipo/GR spec should be very competitive, potentially near the 86's weight, which is feasible since it is going to be a smaller 2 seater. Tada-san's quote are in line with this aspect:

I agree 340 HP doesn't sound like much even for a lighter chassis but keep in mind the torque is what we really want to know and I'm anticipating it to be plenty.
Its possible they are yanking our chains, but its also possible the car will be ~365 hp ~3000lbs and ~3.8 sec 0-60.

I'll use 4 cars as examples...

1. My old 2006 IS350 was 3500lbs, 306 hp, and did 0-60 in 4.9. (Toyota gave us a pleasant surprise with this engine)
2. My old 2009 911 was 3200lbs, 385 hp, and did 0-60 in 3.8. (The supra could be very similar weight and hp)
3. A BMW M2 is 3500 lbs, 365 hp, and is quoted 0-60 in 4.0. (Imagine if this car weighed 3-500 lbs less)
4. 718 Cayman S is 3000lbs, 350hp, and is quoted 0-60 in 4.0. (We keep getting hints that it will be competitive with the Cayman)

the mass is wrong.

insiders have hinted that 3.8s is believable.

take a Cayman S, shed 250lbs, add 8AT, done. sub 4 s sprint to 100kmh and crack into 11s over the 400m
However... A70 like HKz's post about 'yanking our chains' and didn't (yet) like Ryley's post about 3.8 being realistic... so...

ask and ye shall receive.

weight is dynamic, especially if people start tacking options on to the car at the last minute. what's important is maintaining that P/W ratio more than anything else. (this is general commentary on development)

lighter the better, but you can't have everything. we shall see where we end up...

@A70TTR Have the designs throughout the car been finalized or are the still tweaking fenders, lights, dimensions, etc? I guess I'm not worried about the power or weight that much as I am about the drive train and looks. Thanks for the subtle hints throughout the forum.

2006 IS350 weights 3500lbs with 306hp/277tq.....0-60 4.9secs (remember this an NA engine with max tq coming in around 4000rpm and max hp around 6000rpm)

now minus 500lbs from that weight it would probably do 0-60 in 4.7secs

now add a better tuned transmission and gearing that puts it at 4.6 secs(because the transmission in the IS was from 13yrs ago)

now add additional 50lbtq to that at 1500rpm I think 3.8secs is plausible, only if the specs leaked is wrong.

Plus we don't know if BMW is the one giving the specs or Toyota. If its BMW 340hp could be 360hp..

remember too the ZF8 can have the torque converter replaced with an electric motor, giving an extra 50hp

All the power claims have been based on current BMW and leaked BMW figures

Who knows whether meddling Toyota have stuffed some electrickery in there...

that said, none of the mules have an EV sticker....

(the torque converter can be replaced with a clutch pack too, but anyone who's heard the mule videos... well, they're definitely converter.... whether that's indicative of production, who knows)

Or one could theoretically go back 3-4 posts and read between the lines or erm... rather the bolded ones and theoretically find the answer they would be looking for. Again just a theretocal idea.

3.8sec in a RWD car is almost impossible. It will more likely be around 5secs.

I would think the overboost feature would be enough to obtain those numbers if the p/w ratio is low enough.
