Cheap Track Tires

After few track days, OEM Tires were... as you expect.. Trashed.. To replace all 4 corners, it would cost me around $1,500 after all associated cost. Hence, I needed alternate solution specifically for track days (non-competition). I thought Nankang AR-1 would be cheaper since this is made by Taiwanese Company but still a bit higher price range than I expected and its UTQG is 100. OEM MPSS is 300 although wear rate felt like 30.. After a long research, I've decided on Federal 595RS-PRO which offers 200 UTQG. I choose PRO instead of Federal 595RS-RR only because wet traction. According to their web site, https://www.federaltire.com/en/products_detail.php?class=UHP&products_detail_sn=42 , RR does not indicate for wet grip where PRO & R does. Btw, R does not offer 19". Over all cost of 2 pairs of OEM size would be less than $850 including shipping, mounting, tax & etc..

Hopefully, if all condition permits, I will be running these tires on the track next weekend to give some feedback.

If anyone else have good or bad on any other tire experience, please post.

Your ahead of me. Weather and schedule I’ve only had one track day in Supra Have another 17th I think. Stock tires will be mostly done after. We get almost full days
I am going r888 and larger as I will not be daily driving it.
Let us know how they do?

R888R are great tires. I was also thinking of it but it was a bit pricey. Then there was Nankang AR-1. Many reviews rated AR-1 to be faster tire than R888R so I researched on it. Both are very comparable even price... AR-1 might be slightly cheaper than R888R.

Falken RT615k+ and Hankook RS4s are a great value because they last forever for a 200TW tire.

Anybody running RE71R's on their Supra?

It's hard to justify getting a whole new set of 18" wheels just to be able to get the A052's (They don't make them in 19"); especially since the stock wheels are already forged and you won't gain much in weight savings (although rotational mass I do grant you if you wanna be hardcore)...

As far as trying to stay in B-Street and be competitive, our best 200TW options are either the RE-71Rs or the ADVAN NEOVA AD08 R's. Just looking for reviews on these tires on the stock wheels...

I completely agree the Federal's are definitely budget friendly; but won't be able to take down the guys running the A052's.

Ive ran RE71R 265/35/19 F and 305/30/19 Rear on Titan7 19s. Will be moving to 18” square setup next season with 275/35/18 as my primary tire because they are so much cheaper than 19” tires. Honestly don’t feel that having all that extra width is usable on track, makes more sense for drag guys. I was getting smoked by a race prepped M3 on track and I found out he was on 275/35/18 square. Will focus on getting better alignment, aero, and tire compounds rather, which I feel are more effective than going for the widest tire possible.

Which Titan7 19s are you running? I've been searching for an extra set of track wheels and I'd like to mount Hoosiers but I'd run pretty much any of the aggressive R-comp tires that'd fit. I've had my eye on the Titan7 T-S5's which will fit 265/35-19f and 295/35-19r but I'm concerned about rubbing. My suspension is bone-stock and I have no intention of changing it for now, possibly a camber kit in the future. And for the record, I'm not a track newbie. I've been running an S2000 on Hoosiers for many years. I'm just trying to get this wheel/tire fitment right without changing anything I don't have to. Thanks for any advice/experience you can pass along.

Falken 660s are the flavor of the month / year for 200tws competitively. Comparable times to the RE71 (with the RE71 being slightly faster) but with additional longevity. Crisp turn in, predictable at the limit. As comparison, RE71 will be cords around 6 hours in an enduro, 660 is making 8 with a little rubber to spare.

Hard to beat RS4s though which can easily run a full 16 hour enduro with laughs to spare. Lap consistently slower than the rest but take abuse like nothing else, and priced perfectly.

@nibble I'm curious if you ever ended up going with the Federal 595RS-PRO? I just did a track weekend, and there was another Mk5 running the 595s with sway bars and was putting down crazy quick lap times. From what he said, they held up to the trashing no problem and he wasn't exactly being nice to them.

Yes. I went /w RS-Pro. at the time, I had sway bar only in front which made rear a bit unsettling but I hope to test it all next round. tires feels a bit heavier even though it is same size but it held up pretty well. I'm sure that driver is a pretty good driver as well.

I just went with some RS-RR's for my E92. Wasn't too worried about the wet grip being from Cali.

Let us know how the Pro's work, I haven't seen to many review on them

How did a front bar make the rear loose? Did you run it in full soft?

what ever you do to a car for the track needs to be balanced. Doesn't matter for the street. If you have a big spoiler you need a front splitter. And if you put on a front sway bar you will need a rear. etc

I just picked up a square setup for mine picking up some RS-Pros and might get another wheel set and get the 201s but heard the RE71s are better. Ionno I got the Supra track day in May? and may try to hit up another before hand. I've usually run RRs on the street and track cuz they're so cheap. 265/35/18 for my wheels.
