If the new Supra does indeed come with a BMW motor, woud you still buy the car?

Do you think some of these figures/the aesthetics could possibly change from now until then? There are things that make me believe that Toyota is still "holding back" info. I feel like they are saying/showing these "Production" cars, but there are still things that will be changed to the production version. For example, I don't doubt that the first version will only come in auto/DCT, but the HP figure seems to be a little low for a Toyota Halo car.

That's my personal opinion though, wondering if anyone else agrees or disagrees?
350 does seem lower than expected especially for something branded "Supra" (I understand the original supra was released as something completely different than what it has turned into)

but then again....compared to its other sports car the 86 and that power output.....I wouldn't be suprised if it did come out to be 350....if it indeed weighs 3000lbs thats still a fun, quick sports car.....not to mention if they built it with the intent of aftermarket tuning 350 is a nice number to make the pitch of "hey buy our grmn tune/intake/exhaust/intercooler etc etc etc." to pump up the power to a more reasonable 400-450

That last part makes a lot more sense to me now. De-tune the car and then sell the tune.....I forget someone mentioned that there would be factory tunes to pump up the hp ( : Can't wait!! Hopefully the sound of the Turbo Inline 6 sounds just as glorious

I do agree, having the HP around 350 will keep the price down, making the car attainable.

Toyota knows just like the 86, a large margin of owners will want to modify the car. It makes more sense to them to have a lower entry point, getting Toyota more sales, and then offer these upgrades as GRMN or TRD upgrades, or let the aftermarket play.

I am not opposed to that. 350 out of the box should be a fairly quick car, and having the ability with a few bolt ons to bring it into the Mid 400's sounds like a lot of fun to me.

I agree with everyone's sentiments. To me, 50k is a magic number. Anything above that and it starts to feel like I'm paying too much to indulge. At 50k I can negotiate it down to the 40s and it starts to feel more practical in my mind.

Spotted on supra forums.

I was recently at a Toyota event and got to see the car from a distance (Along with the NASCAR version). It's very similar, if not exactly the same, as the most recent renderings. The following was shared:
- Will debut at the Detroit Auto Show, should see it at dealerships next Summer. - ~350 HP engine, not 400 as I've seen stated. It will be an I6 with a single turbo. - Automatic transmission. Toyota did not officially announce this but in talking to a Toyota engineer it's a no-go on a M/T - hoping he's wrong..
It was about a 45 second show and tell so they didn't divulge much information beyond that.
So the current Camry makes above 300 HP. I am not a horsepower guy since I drive a ND Miata LOL, but for the Supra should be for than 350.

It probably is. These turbo motors tend to be underrated. I believe even the MKIV TT dyno more then what Toyota had stated.

I want to see it come in at the 400+HP/TQ mark. BUT I wouldn't mind it coming in at 385 HP/TQ or so long as the price tag is reasonable enough....let's say starting at $45k :hmm: which is a $20k price jump from the 86.

this is purely speculation, but while the output is 350hp it may entail overboost to 380hp.

I know there is a feature to increase tq, but generally overboost in a true sense would mean more power overall so im interested to see that play out.

Time to think.

If the power is realistically at 350 HP and the car is priced at let's say, 45k, bear with me, will make it a easy buy against the corvettes and Caymans. Then, with the appropriate factory tune, can meet the price point of 54 or even 60k wher eit would go toe to toe with the caymans and corvettes price point, but go far above with this new trim.

Toyota keeps it's sales number by selling the car with most profit and the potential for buyers to buy items on the side that helps pay off the R&D as a side factor.

wow, who knew DLC would find it's way into the car industry.

PFfft,

No offense, but I doubt Toyota will let any type of negotiating happen when they're going to hike these prices up cause Supra.

Toyota doesn't decide whether dealers can negotiate. Nor can they just "hike up" prices. This is a car. There are tons of cars and this is only special to some people because of nostalgia. On paper it's still an automobile. Wait till the second model year and when the hype train is gone, it'll be just like any auto purchase.

That's what I had in mind. I heard dealerships were marking up the price of the 86 cause it was sepcial. I still think a third year or fourth year is the year someone should purchase.

I'm only sayinf dealerships will most likely try and get some extra $$$ from the brand a Supra brings for enthusiasts .

Dealers can try what ever they want. Go in the middle of the month, decline the first offer, give them the number you want, when they refuse walk out the door. They'll call you 100%. Wait a week, and by the end of the month they'll give you what you want so they can reach their monthly sales goal.

That's what happened with someone I know when I dropped my car off for maintenance, got a civic Type R. I say, oh man, did the dealership tried to screw you?

Said yep. Came in, tried to give me some Bs, told him that he should work on wall street with the corrupt politicking he trying and left. got called back, got the car jsut a hair below MSRP especially since it was the end of the month and he was the only one who'd be able to get the car off the lot.

I'm not saying that dealerships are scummy but I know for a fact they're going to try and pawn as much money as possible from unsuspecting indivdiuals.
