I was definitely knocking the motor in the LC500 (because it's old and it doesn't have enough power for that car IMO), but that's one of the reasons I have a new project so can't be too negative lol

467hp is barely decent for the 4000lb RC-F; 470hp for the 4500lb LC? No thanks, but I do understand the ethos of the car and that high power wasn't the aim.
So when we getting a massive diet of these cars?

I feel Lexus fumbled at the goalline on both the RCF and LC500. They may as well punted the lc500h haha. Kept telling myself, they were so close to dominating the market with both cars and they just said well this is good enough.
But Lexus has never been about chasing metrics, so yes for people who want world beaters, yes they fall short a little but as daily drivers, think most reviewers have been pretty happy about the results.

Good point, I agree with you, but why build something half-way. Even if it's not their goal, they were knocking on the door to do so. I've driven both (RCF and LC500)in competitive times events. As much as I wanted to like them and possibly buy them, they just felt Meh to me. It's missing that little bit of an edge and a manual trans . Underpowered and overweight.

Doubt there would be manuamanual Lexus if they are going for business men who are looking to keep an image.

Though, weight is s different problem altogether

That one of those new transmissions? Haha just messing. I mean I know non manual fits their image, just saying I wished they would have released one. The weight is definitely a factor. Lose weight and the power would probably work out fine, on both models.

..he is going off of supposed US sales and his one friend in NY anyways...

..the ancient GX (27,000) outsold the QX80 (18,000), Escalade (23,000) and Navigator (10,000) in the US for 2017 on top of outselling them in the years prior..this is the same case when you look at 4Runner/Surf/Prado/LC sales in the US and around the world.
Lol.. you are comparing apples and oranges. Comparing a midsize truck with with a full-size truck. Compare LX sales with above or the Sequioa sales.

Did u see the links that showed Tahoe sales vs Sequioa vs. Expedition? I’m sure but you like to say things that favor your argument as opposed to talk facts. I’m giving you an example about 4Runner sales in the NY and the NE region in general and you are so stuck on that.. immature at best.

Also don’t forget Lexus gave away the GX for almost three months of last year to move the inventory. Figure sign n drive on a 60k truck for less that 525$.

I don't believe I ever asked A70TTR a question. One topic, but a series of follow ups.

1. Who killed the FT-HS/why did it never make proudction?
2. Were they any serious plans for production or was it just a design exercise?
3. What would it have under pin? GS450h?
4. Would it have been called "Supra"?

It had a face only a mother could love, but the side profile and rear didn't look that bad for the time period. Also if I recalled correctly the press release said 400hp, 0-60 in under 4 seconds, and some Toyota executives hinted at a mid $30k price range ($35k?) Adjusted for today that would be like $42k. As a whole package it didn't sound that bad.

Wow, that is news to me! Are you saying a business man will not be well respected/viewed if he drives a manual?

1. Accounting

2. It was originally going to be the new Supra (hence the V6 and cockpit dash), but then the economy crashed; FT-86 then took that overall design and that was the end of it for the most part. You can however still see elements of that car in the FT-1 and Supra, mostly because both the FT-1 and FT-HS were Calty Design projects.

3. I assume you mean what chassis would have been used. In that config, I have no idea, but I was told the prototype either didn't have a drivetrain or only had an electric motor like the FT-1 (can't remember specifically). The 400hp V6 hybrid thing was wishful thinking and/or marketing making it sound way cooler than it was IIRC.

4. It would likely have been called Supra, but it's tough to say as development never began

Hey A70, any new developments on engines for Lexus line up? Will they axe the 5.7L v8? It's pretty thirsty and hard to meet EPA mins.

I've been meaning to ask about this and haven't gotten around to it, but they are doing some new things with the TT v6 atm. I can't say much more than that, but I think thats the future, even though Toyota has been issuing these commitment to NA statement every couple years.

Question for you "insiders" regarding the Toyota Corp culture

so this is a question for your insiders but i would welcome anyone that has a reasonable answer to post.

for those of you that have an idea of how the Toyota corporate culture works or at least have been in it in some capacity, how does a little guy like me get my feelings heard to the people that matter?

i just feel like there has to be something more than conjecturing on a message board to get their attention i am hoping?

what do y'all see that really makes the big boys in charge take notice? besides the obvious sales numbers of course.

I feel like Toyota is loosing touch with some of their fans. I point to the recent mid cycle refresh of the 86 as a prime example. 5HP bump and you still didn't get rid of the torque dip ?!?! come on that is lame and we all know it.

anyway what do you say?

We should set an event up: 'Early bird Supra shopping'.

1) We all go to different Toyota dealerships on the same day/weekend. I think enough of us on this board are spread across the US and other regions.
2) We take interest on the 86 and go for a test drive
3) After the test drive we say we cannot purchase the vehicle. They'll ask why? We all give them the same feedback: 'It handles GREAT, but just not powerful enough or stylish enough'
4) We then leave our feedback with the manager, 'If you're to make a vehicle a bit bigger than the 86 keeping it lightweight with 400+HP and a price tag around $45K let me know.
5) Don't forget to say a manual OPTION is a must as well :D
6) As you're walking away remind them that if you wanted a heavy/luxury sports car and pay above $55K, you'd go buy a Lexus

Hopefully enough of that feedback gets fed back up to the suits.
