If they'd make it AWD I'd definitely buy one to drive the kids around in. I've always loved the V6 they used in this car. We've had one in our family for practically the entire generation they've existed. Just kind of a meh without it for me and what I enjoy/would like to see in a car like this. Good review!

Iā€™ve sold a few Camry TRD and Avalon TRD, theyā€™re super nice but Toyota doesnā€™t want us to compete with our Lexus division when it comes to V6 AWD cars, thatā€™s why weā€™ve never has a V6 AWD Toyota sedanā€¦

If we are talking numbers wise, Toyota/Lexus V6 sedans have been stuck in the 0-60 in ~6 seconds and 1/4 mile in ~14.5 second range for the past 15 years. Only car to break that barrier is the 2nd Gen IS., and even that was back in 2006-07.

I remember back in 1998, my old GS400 (although with a V8) could keep up with a and even beat standard Mustang GT. If we are looking at that linear line of performance progression, I would think it would totally be reasonable by now for ToMoCo to offer a sedan that does 0-60 in 4 flat and 1/4 mile in the high 12ā€™s.

perhaps I am being unrealistic here because such a sedan would beat up on a new Nissan Z, but hey:rofl:

Again, strictly from a numbers perspective.

Please prove me wrong Toyota and build a V6 sedan that is faster than 0-60 in ~6 seconds and 1/4 mile in ~14.5 second.. all I am asking for is for you to actually beat your 2007 Performance benchmarks in 2022.:coffee:

Lol, they wonā€™t, theyā€™re way too focused on electric and hybrid carsā€¦

Well that honestly makes total sense from a marketing perspective, I suppose. It sucks. But makes sense. Thanks for pulling back the curtain.

I've seen a couple of these things driving around town and at my local Toyota dealer. It strikes me as Toyota's answer to a Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS Dale Ernhardt Edition.

To be a real "TRD" *or* "GR" variant it really needs an AWD system with more than the standard V6's 301hp (given the car's weight) with a different engine tune or even a TRD supercharger, more aggressive transmission calibration, four-pot front brake calipers and an LSD at least at the rear.

...But of course NONE of that would ever happen in this model. I'm annoyed to learn that the reason for no AWD V6 is to neuter the Camry so as not to allow it to compete well with Lexus AWD models. At least for this TRD Camry it would make sense to make an exception since it's not trying to be Lexus-like.

The factory body kit and rear wing I could do without. The TRD-spec suspension and stiffening bars however would be nice as an option package on the regular Camry AWD 4cyl and FWD V6 models. Again... that's not going to happen. It should... but it won't of course.

As Toyota performance sedans go this doesn't even compare to old JDM Mark II / Chaser Tourer V JZX90, JZX100 and JZX110 1JZ-GTE models (RWD, JZ turbo engines, available LSD and available manual transmission) and the recently deceased VERY limited run JDM Toyota Mark X GRMN sedan with a supercharged V6, standard LSD and factory 6-speed manual transmission.

Camrys are otherwise very good everyday sedans and they're absolutely some of the best in that category. It's just a bit silly to put even a TRD badge onto them as configured.
