i have always heard people referring the Supra as "the Japanese Corvette" :p
Yeahhhh. Price wise it is admittedly the closest comparison. The term Japanese should make the distinction enough, but I just don't want to associate this car with the cheesefest that is the new C7. :puke:

i also think the C7 looks like sh*t. however, performances wise its a really good bargain, and IMO that is what Toyota needs to match or surpass.

The C7 is kinda a hot mess to me. The taillights ugly, unpainted trims, and overall it looks a little riced out IMO. The car just doesn't flow very well unlike the C6. At least the interior looks nice.

I'd like to see a base + flagship for this car only because it can help sales and keep prices lower. However, even the base must be worthy especially if it carries the Supra name plate.

Base - Toyota V6TT (400+HP)
Flagship - V8 (possibly turbo 500+HP)

From early rumors it was said this may get the Lexus NX 2.0 turbo 4 cyl and a V6 turbo version. If this is the case I personally would like a new name for the car. The 4cyl turbo of today is better than most NA 6 cyl engines. But this car should be about image and even a base deserves respect. You want a 4cyl turbo, go get a Mustang Ecoboost. Not bashing 4cyl engines but it's not for this car.

Guys, I'm talking about the rumored Q60 twin turbo 3.0 engine output 400+hp in the new Z "probably Z nismo", not the current half baked Z.

Supra Mk4 back in the day was made to compete with 300ZX, it was too good, it went to compete with 911 and R34 instead. Toyota can make another Supra that go against a class above what it intended originally.
The Nismo Z usually has the same engine as the regular Z model though no? So the regular Z would have to have the Q60's engine too. I've read more rumors that the next Z is downsizing both in physical size and engine (to a turbo 4 cylinder).

Toyota is supposedly working on a new V6 turbo for the next IS-F. if true, it would make sense to throw that drivetrain into FT1 as well.
I'd rather have a new Toyota made 3.0L V6TT than BMW sourced I6TT.
Absofreakinlutely! I hope Toyota is reading this. Please no BMW engine in a Supra. That just wrong.

I hope that they do offer some kind of high-high performance editions or models after the first model is introduced. You see companies doing this more and more these days by putting out special editions or upgraded models to keep interest in the car and to keep the sales going. Seems the cars that don't get updates and attention are the ones that experience the biggest dropoffs in sales over time.

Sometimes mfrs offer the higher end one first before the base, if it's a highly anticipated vehicle. That way they can cash in on the enthusiast who are gung-ho to be the first! Once they deplete the cash rich gung-ho guys, then they go after cash poor guys...

Two engine option: GS400H powertrain or I-6 TT, (Engine: maybe BMW designed but it a must to be build by Toyota. This is why FRS is not selling because it's not 100% Toyota build), 6 speed manual transmission with shift light, auto dimming rear view, driver and passenger side mirror, heated driver and passenger side mirror, removable sport roof, 2+2 seat, speed activated rear spoiler, good audio subwoofer, traction control system, two cup holder in the front (one real at least like SC), TEMS, Power-Standard or Snow engine mode, ventilated front seats, power tilt/ telescoping steering column, surround view camera or at least backup camera, blind spot warning, Disable mode switch if you install paddle shifter, Pre-SAFE brake, SUPRA with TRD badge

^ you like your Lexus, hmmmm? ;)
I think we just added 300pounds right there...

As for me, screw the creature comfort... All I want is to have the engine from this baby, although old, it could be updated!

The base model needs to be worthy of the name by itself.

I would love to see a base 911 fighter and a higher-end GT-R, NSX, 911 turbo fighter.

I would hate to see there be some base model cheap Supra competing with the Z. Would terribly cheapen the car and dilute the image, and make the whole Supra feel less special in general.

The Supra should be a 911, not a Cayman; GT-R, not 370Z; more Audi R8, not TT; more Ford GT, not Mustang; I don't even want to make the Chevy comparison. Supra should be anything but entry-level and should have a quality build with sophisticated materials and supreme performance.
x2, agreed the Supra nameplate is the flagship for Toyota!

Toyota has the 86 to take on the Z. the new Supra should have bigger fish to fry.

The Z should continue to be priced slightly above the 86 so they are not completely apples to apples competitors but agreed that the Supra has to be the flagship Toyota. I wouldn't mind if they took it slightly upmarket even
