ECUs store the mileage. That is good to know. I guess we will all be on the lookout for oddly low mileage Supras for sale once warranties expire. ?

Other control units in the car may contain mileage data too. I think if it was that easy to fake mileage by swapping the engine control unit, this would have been a huge step back in technical capabilities for BMW/Toyota.

For example, the instrument cluster also has knowledge of the mileage, as one might expect.

Here is a sample screenshot of reading codes from a mismatched engine control unit.
