EXACTLY...

I had this clunking BADLY especially over rough ground. .... it was not the tie rods ( or suspension) ... it was the fact the thrust bush was not moving freely to ensure correct amount of play from the steering pinion to the rack (due to too little grease and what was there had dried up)

.... 1 hour of my time on my drive with a jack , a $10 tool and $3 of FB-1 grease .. and no more knocking car even steers/feels better!!

BMW and Toyota will just replace rack cos TSB/ESTA say replace it ... but as they are animals i knew i would get the car back not in the same state as i gave it to them.

Still no knocking after 6 months.

Mine has the clunk. Didn’t notice it prior to installing springs and front sway bar. I’ll look into this, thank you.
