DTS is the biggest nonsense ever. None of it is real. Several drivers have made comments how DTS tried to make rivalries and stories about things that were absolutely untrue.
That was just my opinion. It looked like Merc was going to have an orgasm when the Red Bull car was hoisted up. Then I read on some stupid F1 publication that Mercedes should be able to find some kind of “regulation” issue. Could just be the tabloids pumping it up. Maybe they all get along really well. I haven’t watched DTS since last season.

This isn't racing.
You need to just be viewing F1 as a team sport; drivers get the stardom and most of the credit, but it's a team game first and foremost - which is why drivers constantly thank the team after races, they know who butters their bread.

I can't claim to have watch F1 since I was in the womb like Danny, but you can't really change a lot of what makes it sometimes so lopsided (the team design aspect) because that is what it's kind of all about.

Make the cars fuckin smaller tho...

I came to F1 from Drive to Survive. It was awesome watching Max battle Lewis.

But endless complaining of Mercedes dominance and now the Red Bull dominance left me wondering how competitive is this sport. Then I go back and look at the history of these multi-year champions and how competitive the races really were. And they weren't. 2023 is not an outlier, it's the norm. The winning car can literally start from pit lane and will still win or at least podium. If they start pole they get out of DRS range within 2-3 laps are leading by a full pit stop in 20 laps.

This isn't racing.

Aggravating this situation is the biased nature of the FIA. They either don't like drivers or teams or both. And they clearly rule against them but turn a blind eye towards their favorites. Take Renault's mass dampener? Why did they rule against it? F1 liked Ferrari and Schumacher, they wanted the dynasty to last. So take out the shake weight, normalize the car driven by the Spaniard, and suddenly Ferrari and Schumacher are free. But then they tire of the teams and want a change. So rule against Ferrari's fuel trick so Merc can't get rolling. They want to change the guard from Mercedes to Red Bull so they turn a blind eye to the overly aggressive, if not outright dangerous, moves by Max. Heck they gave Max the first championship. The FIA guy was fired not for giving away the championship but rather in how blatantly obvious it was. F1 orchestrates these dynasties.

F1 is auto racing's equivalent of Pro Wrestling. Give it back to the Europeans.
The point of the cost cap was to make the sport more even. You are right that it's normal for teams to go season after season with the championship. You are also correct that there was/is corruption in the FIA.

That being said, I feel like the cost cap has at the very least made the middle and back of the grid more competitive and from that perspective it has been a positive.

I would love to have a season like 2021 every season, where the championships are decided at the end of the season. It was a shame that it ended the way it was as it truly was one of the best seasons ever.

The thing is, the FIA go over each car with a fine tooth comb, so they would already be aware of anything that was against the rules. The FIA are constantly checking the vehicles to make sure they are within spec.

So while all the teams were happy to see the floor of the RB, it doesn't 100% mean that they'll be able to duplicate it and certainly not in a timely manner.

These teams do not get along. Sure they come together once and awhile, and are friendly for the most part, but make no mistake they want to beat each other at all costs.

Yup! And ditch hybrid, and bring back refueling. Refueling added more strategy and stops were longer, around 6 seconds, and the V8 and V10 just sounded incredible. With synthetic fuels, this should be possible. The cars are too big and too heavy. The early 2000's is when they were perfect.

Every single team was "having an orgasm" when the RB, Merc and Ferrari was lifted in the air. Facts that RB was sitting there taking pictures of the Ferrari and Merc also to go over with a fine-tooth comb. Doesn't mean anything. its not just the floor that would make them fast all of a sudden. They could design the exact same floor as RB but without everything else its not going to have the same speed. RB just admitted they took some designs from Williams and copied that for their Monaco package. So they all do it. Just like they did to Mec few years ago, RB before that Brawn double diffusor. All F1 teams merge to pretty much the same concept after 2-3 years, whomever is the fastest the other teams will look to for "inspiration."

Every manufacturer with an F1 team:
“We pass down what we learn and develop in Formula 1 to our road cars…”

?
Yup. And how much weight have cars gained over the last couple decades? Quite a bit. A 1990 BMW M3 was under 2700 lbs. A new 2023 almost 4000 lbs.

Unless you're Force India/ Aston Martin and just blatantly copy and make a pink Mercedes and green Red Bull ?

I assumed as much. And love extremes/sarcasm to drive thought. Question is, why is Red Bull so far ahead of the rest? Everyone can see the car, FIA goes over them with a fine tooth comb, Merc still has Hamilton, Aston Martin is pouring money into sources outside of F1. So what gives?

Great convo from all y’all. I’m learning more here than any magazine or website

Is it me or does Sky, DTS, F1 “official” publication, and others, predominately favor the Brits, or other personal favs? I sense a bias with the majority of commentators & publications. I’d love to root for the American driver and team. But they suck.

Has Red Bull always been this revered and/or hated?

In absolutely any sport that is televised the coverage is ALWAYS going to favor whomever will draw in the biggest audience at that moment.

Hence the hate for Red Bull I suppose? Because they are winning, better & too far ahead. Screw you Red Bull! Now I could be a journalist ;)

Yep. And let's not forget, it is much more "with the times" to be jealous, spiteful, and angry at those who are successful, and want a piece of their success for nothing by means of a handout, than it is to acknowledge and recognize their achievement through hard work.

it's not redbull in my opinion. it's max. recent rise of hatred of him rose because how he treats perez, his team mate. for example, last year, perez gave up his position to max to help max. but when max already had won the championship and perez needed points to secure 2nd place, max did not yield. I always did not like how he drove anyway so that incident did not surprised me.
