I rather roll the dice with film and protect the paint. If it rips clear then I'll respray. If I don't film and get peppered in rock chips I still have to repaint eventually.
Rock chips are pretty easy to fix with Dr. Colorchip. I have a few that you can't see at all unless you have you nose 6" from the paint.

That wouldn't have helped my rocker panels. Nocturnal black looked like salt and pepper with all the rock chips there.

Black is tough for sure. A white car is much easier to deal with.

Technically they're exactly the same, the only difference is the deception our eyes create.
I'd argue that it's not deception, but rather our eyes ability to see defects due to reflective properties of darker versus lighter colors. Lighter colors are simply more forgiving to our eyes. But darker colors have the benefit of greater depth.

For that reason, I'm much more of a white car guy than a black car guy. Black is super difficult to keep looking good all the time. White is much, much easier to deal with.

Have those. They are okay. Not 100%.
Weird. In 12000 miles I do not have a single chip anywhere down the sides. And I hear the little pebbles hitting the rock guards all the time.
