Ive been haunting threads about intakes and browsing Whifbitz for a while and it seems the stock airbox for the supra is actually really well designed. I know we all want fancy carbon bits and noisy intakes despite the crazy money but it costs but what about a very simple solution? I'm talking about a good old panel filter from K&N to increase airflow and maybe a resonator delete to add a little more turbo noise?

This would be around £130 and from what I can tell wouldn't do anything to a UK warranty. Would love thoughts and experiences if you have them!

Welcome to the forum .

I personally wanted the woosh noises so i opted for the MST intake with a clear top, looks and sounds awesome. I'm not sure about panel filters whether they offer you much in terms of HP, looks or sound... sorry not much help :)

The air intakes are so well desighned from factory nowadays that after market intakes wont be as good at keeping IAT's down or even boost performance unless under excellent DA. So if you want an increase in HP use a thinner filter to allow for more airflow! The trade-off being the risk of allowing more dust particles in on a windy day! The user above pasted some great links for products that might interest OP! ^^^^^

I run the HKS drop in and agree with the design and efficiency of the stock airbox. Especially when it comes to IAT's.

Have you logged your IAT's with the HKS filter? I was also looking into picking one up. The stock filter looks hella restrictive. I've also removed the foam from the bottom of the intake. That helped with the sound and possible aided in some de-restricting.

IAT's are normal on average of 20 above ambient.

So you get a little more noise? Did you do the Res delete?

I'm running a Green Filter drop-in. There's a tad bit more noise at WOT, and slightly better throttle response. My but dyno says I gained a few HP up top?

Removing the foam helped a bit with turbo noise. I left the resonator as is but might pull it out one when I swap filters.
FYI, if you wanna be a cheap bastard, a wine-bottle stopper fits perfectly and plugs the small hole in the airbox lid leading to the resonator. Then remove the foam and drop in a high-flow filter. The resonator seems to filter out higher-pitched turbo whistle, so with it blocked off you should hear is a bit more.

I did this along with the intake resonator delete and I would say it adds around 5% increase in volume, BUT only with windows down, 1st and 2nd gear and driving close to buildings. Not really worth it IMO. Save up for a Dinan intake (or similar).

That would be another level of cheap hahahaha!

Im really not in it for the cost factor myself, I just hate to waste good engineering for the sake of noise.
