Ok everyone, I know a lot of you just like me are very particular to the max.

What are your driving or car rituals?

For me a couple:

Won’t drive my car in the rain or snow.

Won’t drive close to trucks on the highway.

Wont drive my car if it’s too dirty.

Avoid all potential obstacles on the road like wet areas or road construction during paving etc.

I know I have many more just a couple examples.

What are yours?

Being very particular about things isn't OCD.
No but I am OCD and have many tendencies that take very particular to way beyond…

Being that I am truly OCD I lose sleep or get anxiety over the most trivial things.

That’s also why I listed habits & rituals for those that aren’t OCD.

My daughter is diagnosed with obsessive-compulsive. It's incredibly debilitating. It's not driving too close to trucks; it's having to run water for 9.5 seconds, checking light switches 19 times, driving around the house 4 times before we can park, waking up at 5:35am every day, and being unable to function if you oversleep because it was not exactly 5:35am, and washing a spot you've already washed to the point where you bleed..

Maybe you're truly obsessive-compulsive, but none of the things you've listed are.

Yes I do all those things as well but I also take medication to help with that. The thread was created to see what peoples car habits are. No one cares if I check my light switches over and over. Yea I do all that but I was referring to car habits.

I know very well how debilitating it is because when I was a kid they didn’t have a diagnosis or medicine to help. I had to manage for most of my life before I was actually diagnosed and had some relief of treatment, so I know all about it.

I still remember taking special testing when I started in school because they thought I was mentally slow. They figured out during that testing that I was bored not and not challenged enough for my disability because I tested higher than entry level. They didn’t call it a disability then it was just are the kids at the right learning level. I still remember being very embarrassed about that and overhearing the teachers all talk about me.

There are also many levels to OCD. You can have extreme or lesser effects. Around 2.5m in the US alone have it and are treated and I’d estimate many more have it and don’t even realize it or seek help.

About the same, it’s taking care of your ride that you earned with your own money…

My general rule of thumb, in addition to your list, is to stay away, as much as possible, from old, rusted, busted, dangling parted, craptastic vehicles and god damn unpaved roads that I encounter ever since I moved. Thankfully Waze's avoid unpaved road option comes handy (hope Google does not take that away too!)
Living in Michigan makes life difficult for enjoying a pristine car. Highways, side roads, all have nice crap, stones, rocks on the shoulders. Always 2 seconds away from getting hit with a stone.
Side roads have nuclear sized, side by side craters, sometimes impossible to dodge. So, you appreciate the quick steering ratio ?? So, if I know a stretch of road fubar, I avoid it.
Namely this Giddings rd: adds 5 mins to my route to avoid it. If you have kidney stones, come visit for free painful fix.

Was going to say the same thing. Ranks up there with people stating they have PTSD from a work meeting they had last week. Bruh...
Completely agree in those cases, however OCD you can usually tell if you have a mild to moderate case. Like me a symmetry issue with 2 pieces of furniture could cause me to not sleep, or did I lock the front door and have to get up and check it 9 times. It’s frustrating as hell even tho you think you did you’re not satisfied until it’s complete in your own mind.

I have some OCD like tendencies.

My driver side and passenger side climate control temps must always match.

When I park I have to adjust my car 3-4 times sometimes until it "feels right".

My steering wheel must always be perfectly straight (to my eye) when I park my car.

When I put my phone in my phone mount I have to adjust it until its completely straight.

When I roll my windows down partially I will adjust them so they are even matched on both sides.

I'm there are some more but those are just a few off the top of my head ?

Yea, it's all relative and not binary, I agree with that, although I am not in the medical or wellness profession. ;)

PTSD is a whole other thing.

Count me among those who need the climate control dials to match.

I also need the passenger seat position to match the driver seat position, and every time someone gets in my car and moves the seat I feel my eye twitch a bit.
