Well… I live in Maine, and I’ve been pining over an A90 for about a year now. But there are literally none for sale here. I stopped into my local dealer several times just for them to blow me off. I’m a tattooer and Maine is pretty conservative as far as appearances go so I walk in with my face and throat tattooed and they just blow me off as some punk. That’s a dead end… anyway I’m a super busy tattooer that books out 9 months in advance, I don’t have time for road trips. So I try online shopping. Carvana doesn’t ship to Maine, So Vroom it is. I found a decent used 2021 Supra 3.0 premium at a good price and they ship it to my door. Perfect! So I got the car delivered yesterday. It’s great! In great condition its fast, drives nice. But… I noticed at a stop it’s smoking and smells like burning oil, and I see there’s clearly oil residue on the exhaust tips. I have a 7 day trial period I can return the car and I’ll lose my $799 shipping fee and a $599 restocking fee. Or I can maybe have it fixed under warranty? I really like the car, and there’s not much options here. Should I run and cut my losses or keep it and worry about the can of worms I’ll open with warranty work.

I’m sure other far more knowledgeable people than me will pipe in..

I would say this don’t sound good, I would as a mater of urgency get the car to a Toyota dealer to confirm it has an issue since you only have 7 days. Has it been modded? (a pic under the hood would be useful) The roof looks like it has been wrapped which suggests someone has been doing some changes from stock albeit it may have just been this one cosmetic change..

Edit: Also, what is your oil level?

I tried to get it into my local Toyota dealer and they’re all booked until beyond my grace period. It looks stock under the hood and it’s super clean. It is missing the strut tower braces. But it is an early 21 build date 7/20.

Since the car wasn't bought through Toyota, they sadly won't honor any warranty. On top of that, a lot of dealers are notorious for not knowing jackshit about this car.

In my opinion, I wouldn't doubt that the previous owner modded the car, but I could be wrong. Also, the '21 should have silver strut bars. Probably the previous owner put an aftermarket one, sold the OEM ones and once he had to sell the car he couldn't replace them. This is one of the reasons why I would thnk the car was modded. It's hard to just do a single mod in this car. Once you start modding one thing, you go in a whole new world (not a bad thing ).

This might just me, but I would never buy a car like this off somewhere like Carvana, carmax, etc. Cars in places like these were most probably abused. At the same time, I understand your situation in Maine, which is why you'd resort to buying on those places.

In terms of the oil, do you notice if the car smokes? Also, you're 100% sure it's oil and not condensation? No CEL? Do you have an OBD reader?

Oil residue on the exhaust tips, typically isn't a great sign. I'd find a good reputable shop/tuner in yr area and have them do a good look. Better to lose shipping and restocking fee vs something waaay worse.

So, you're new on forums. You've got a modded gladiator, but we've no idea how knowledgeable you're in sports cars or the Supra in general.. So, can't tell if that smoke, oil smell is something you're exaggerating or not. Yet, some 2021's are known to burn more oil than others for sure.
Are you able to look underneath the car to see if it has an aftermarket, possibly a catless downpipe?
Also, share a picture of the exhaust tips where you suspect there's oil? What color is the smoke?
Do you know how long it sat at Vroom?
Can you check to see if the there's oil in charge pipe ?
Definitely hook it up to a OBD reader and take it to a reputable European shop/tuner.
You gotta make time to look into this before your grace period.

just in case, just clean the tips and see if there's more build up..

No cel, and I just ran the codes, nothing at all. I’ve only been able to put about 50 miles on it. It definitely smokes all the time, but I’m thinking it’s coolant now that I’m kind of out of my panic state haha. The coolant level is low in the big tank. There doesn’t seem to be any mixing in the oil. Leaking intake manifold? I just don’t have time to mess with it.

Unfortunately it looks like you have been really unlucky with this purchase. Luckily, it looks like you have a good mate In a very useful job! 👍 Cut your losses and ship that lemon back to lemon-ville!

I look forward to hearing from you again a a few weeks a happy man with a decent non-smoking example!

Will keep my 🤞 for you!
