I think you are approaching it from more of a design perspective where symmetry is everything. I believe you should look at it more from a heritage standpoint and compare it to Supra93's post relating the car to the 2000GT. There you will see lots of elements why the car looks the way it does. The reason for the visual weight and the long nose is because of the inline six engine.I wasn't aware of a meme about it. I referenced it because it was designed with BMW and the silhouette is more BMW influenced.
The proportions seem off. Looks too narrow for it's length, too much visual weight towards rear, and long nose.
The FRS or BRZ looks more properly proportioned for a Toyota coupe .
Also, you might want to check out Kevin Hunter's (CEO of Calty) explanation of design with the FT-1. He mentioned that the car has elements of the 2000GT as well as the MKIV and others generations in the design. He also mentioned why the car has such a "long nose" in the interview.
