I tried searching for the answer but if you get a CEL from a catless downpipe or intake or other mod, etc. on the 2021+ Supra (that can't be unlocked) does it even affect the car at all? Is it just a light on the cluster? How annoying is the light? People seemed obsessed with the CEL being triggered but is it a big deal overall? If it's just cosmetic, i'll probably go catless downpipe..

Thanks,

No pop ups, no ill effects, just the small CEL on the side of the cluster.

To be fair it depends on the severity of the warning, it can and does go Into limp mode (reduced power mode) and you can get messages that say driving cannot be continued call for roadside assistance (every damn time I flash the car I get that one) so if it’s serious enough the car will try to stop you from hurting it more.

A downpipe only, nah your fine it will leave soft codes and CEL codes and the dealer can see those so I wouldn’t count on keeping the powertrain side of the warranty but then again not why we bought these cars….

The CEL is cosmetic and the light stays on while the car is active. Pretty easy to ignore but if it really bothers you, put a piece of tape over it. The car is perfectly fine assuming that the car was in good condition before install, the light just pops because the O2 sensors. There are downpipes on the market that won't give CEL. I decided to go with FI Exhaust's catless downpipe and am looking forward to tuning the car which is why I don't mind the CEL because the tune is how you get rid of it. If you do a downpipe though, I would recommend getting rid of it asap just in case something does actually happen that would trigger a CEL not relating to the downpipe.

Any downpipe that doesn't cause a CEL has a cat, i'd imagine.. Or are there ways to run a o2 simulator?

I believe the only confirmed downpipe to not throw a CEL is the one by Active Autowerkes. It does have a CAT but you likely won't even notice the 3 HP difference with the CAT unless you're going for a really high horsepower build or want to smell like unburnt fuel or want your car to wake up everybody in a 3 mile radius by adding a non-resonated cat back.

Just would like to eek out the most performance to be honest, 3HP or not (i think it's more than 3 tbh at higher boost levels). Plus, catless is so much cheaper on the wallet. I'll be running a AWE Resonated Touring exhaust.. personally I dont mind the extra fuel smell as I won't daily the Supra. But if I find someone selling a used catted downpipe perhaps i'll go that route based on cost alone.
