Everytime I go into diagnostics to reset the brake pad light it’ll say reset unsuccessful.

Went to the dealer and they wanted $80 to reset the light for me. I saw some posts saying that Bimmerlink can reset the lights. Is this the only option?

If you nicked the sensor because they got low, then you have to replace the sensor before a reset will work.

If the built in diagnostic mode reset didn't work then bimmerlink is probably your only option.

Would you know if resetting the brake service interval through bimmerlink would also turn off the brake light? Or would it only be resetting that the interval service.

Resetting the interval also clears the light as long as the sensor is new.

i’m facing the same issue here, I changed my brake pads yesterday without buying new brake sensors and did bleeding for brake oil. I tried bimmerlink to reset service for front and rear brakes but still not working. Only brake fluid reset from bimmerlink worked. Engine oil service, front & rear brakes service didn’t work on bimmerlink. tried to reset engine oil from cluster and still not working

If you already tripped the sensor and have the dash light and warning on idrive you have to buy new ones. The context of your post makes it seem as if you already tripped them. The OP did change his sensors, which you did not.

Bumping this old thread;

You need to close the door when in diagnostic mode and make sure the parking brake isn’t engaged.

Mine cleared successfully after that!
(New brake pad wear sensor installed)

Cheers! :thumbsup:
