I recently purchased a downpipe and it did not come with a gasket. Can I use the existing one or should I order a new one to be safe?
Take care

Up to you. If the original one is still in good shape and you can still safely remove it, go ahead and use it. Or just get a new one. Doesn’t hurt.

I re-used mine since it was still in good condition. Been using it for over 15k miles with no issues

99% you’ll be fine, that said I would just order one. My AA dp came with one and I would have just used a new one anyways.

Do you still have the AA dp installed? I put mine on recently and there is more exhaust smell than I anticipated to be present and think there might be an exhaust leak…most likely at the vband from dp to turbo as I smell exhaust when standing over it at the engine bay. wanted to see if you are experiencing the same or it is a leak. Trying not to redo it if it’s normal.

Adding a pic of the vband and turbo seating area to see if it looks normal or not

I do! I never had a smell of exhaust in the engine bay, which would make me think there is a leak. Did you get a new gasket? Did you get the old one off the turbo/dp? Want to make sure you dont have either; no gasket OR a double gasket.

I have the one supplied from AA that was preinstalled onto the dp. Didn’t check the turbo itself if it had one as the oem dp had one on it when i took it off granted it was pretty messed up lol so maybe half of it is still on the turbo causing a double gasket.

Give that a double check, for sure. Is eveything else aligned ok? Bracket with two nuts on it and is it fully seated on the catback? If you start on a cold engine you may be able to put a hand down there at the catback for a few seconds and see if you can feel any exhaust gasses coming out.

everything else looks aligned well. I had to hammer and shake the cat back onto the dp as it was an incredibly tight fit but catback made it to the bolt to tighten it to the car. DP bracket is also tightened on. I’ll try to let the car cool off enough to test it with my hand around the turbo without burning my face off under the car. my jack doesn’t get the car high enough for there to be good space for me to work with lots of room unfortunately lol.

Sounds about right with the stock exhaust! I would give it a quick feel, but if you really smell it I would suspect its at the turbo and hasn't been through the cat yet. Are you double sure you have a gasket, its lined up and tightened at the V band?

Yeah i’m sure it had a gasket in the DP as I double verified even though I know on the AA site it says they include one now. I tightened as much as my strength allowed at the vband but maybe i can tighten it more after it’s heated and cooled a few times or reseat it again. Appreciate the help!

if all else fails I’ll just take it to a shop to double check

Dont overtighten! Could also cause a leak and you dont need to bend or break anything. Let it cool, pop the hood and fire it up. Quickly check the turbo housing for a leak and then jump under the car (dont burn yourself) and see if you can feel any air escaping!
