I quite like the "engineering explained" channel but he missed a more important point on his white board calculations. Piston "acceleration" is a greater factor in piston/rod failure than piston speed. You can have 2 engines of the same capacity bore and stroke at the same RPM but with different piston acceleration. It's generally the piston acceleration that tends to do the damage.
Modern sports bikes are pretty much covered in regards to money shifting by the use of mechanical slipper clutches. Car manufacturers could do the same if they wanted to but it's probably not worth the engineering effort. It is nice to approach a corner at full attack on the brakes and just bag it down the gears and let the slipper clutch do the work though.

Searched and couldn't find the answer, but if you down shift and it will over rev/money shift, will the car give a warning light and sound so you know not to let off the clutch?

This feature is in my VN, was wondering if iMT for the Supra has it. Thanks!
If you're asking that question you shouldn't drive a manual. ?????

Manual transmissions make car forums more fun. I'm convinced AT guys just aren't as much fun. If it's not granny shifting vs. heel toe, double clutching, hill assist then it's money shifting.

Do a little research on OSHA and industrial accidents. Simple repetitive actions with dangerous machinery is a killer. The monotony subdues the brain, a wire gets crossed, you pull the lever while your hand is in the press and you answer to Lefty for the rest of your life. A machine should be engineered to not put a human in a position to make a human mistake. A machine that can't be designed that way should at least warn them. Anything is better than nothing. It saves lives - full stop.

It would be a nice feature. But with such a small production run and late addition of the transmission, it's not a surprise it doesn't exist. Probably same reason we didn't get the low frequency horn :)

I almost money shifted on the way home from the dealer. Was in 6 and wanted 4. Slotted in front of 2 and as I pulled it through the gate the iMT rev matched and scared the shit out of me. (I had never test drove, and since the dealer was right at the freeway exit, this was the first time I downshifted).

So there ya go OP. Leave iMT on and when it revs like a motherfucker, there’s your sign.

I turned off iMT as soon as I got in the driveway at home. The rev matching was ok, if sort of irritating, but I could not get a smooth 1-2 shift to save my life.

The not smooth shifting 1-2 is not iMT, it's the CDV and everyone says deleting gets rid of that. I plan to do mine this weekend and can't wait to get rid of it.

Also, I feel this shifter has been improved compared to other BMW shifters but is still a bit vague. Sometimes I downshift from 5th to 4th but end up in 6th.

Yeah, about that.. I've had the CDV out and while it improves things somewhat.. after driving it a bit, I just don't know. It's better but it's still a very very ordinary transmission to be honest. I might try turning off rev matching to see if it somehow improves the 1-2 shift but I doubt it will do anything. I guess it depends on what you are used to, but for my money, the gearbox in the Supra is just dogshit.

And as for "money shifting," give me a break. Instead of asking for more nannies, take responsibility for your fuck-ups. If that's not your scene, an automatic should be your transmission of choice as that has all the built in nannies you are requesting.

Did it just redline/cut fuel and bounce off redline?

I’ve never money shifted in my 25 yrs of driving a manual (knock on wood), but this shifter is one of the worst and most vague that it makes me think I might. Also, I’ve never owned a BMW before either so may be it takes time for me to get used to it.

Suggestion, based on my experience with my previous car which was a 2014 Toyota 86 GTS, replace shift knob with heavier one (Raceseng Slammer, 1.4lbs), it fixed all issues I had with the feel of that gearbox.

https://raceseng.com/products/slammer-bmw-adapter-6-speed-reverse-left-up?variant=39762025644134
I honestly don't see how such a change will fix it. As they say in the classics, you can't polish a turd.

And besides, I actually have a Slammer ready to go but am still debating if I should actually, you know.. circumcise my knob. ?

My Type R revs out to near 9000rpm so I have always had the luxury of a fair bit of headroom. Having said this, the whole money shift phenomenon smacks of a complete lack of responsibility for one's actions: I shifted into the wrong gate, therefore the car is at fault for not protecting me from myself. What a time to be alive.

I money shifted once the first few months I had the car. The B58 and the low end wide open throttle in 2nd gear…so much torque, the chassis twisted coming off the line. Seriously though, mine was from 2nd to 3rd and I accidentally went into 1st and quickly took it back out to neutral. The B58s powerband all comes on the low end which is also why the MKV can be tail happy at times. All that with having to shift properly took some practice. I ruined my wife’s clutch 11 years ago on her 2002 Accord she sold a long time ago and she never let me live it down. I was being an idiot beating on it when it wasn’t a sport or performance car. She got in the MKV with me the other day going out to dinner and I decided to get a little rowdy driving. No greater compliment than her complimenting my shifts. “If you don’t practice, you don’t deserve to win”.
