Yes, they should have used the V6-TT in a new Supra. But remember, these cars were developed by BMW, not Toyota. BMW would never put a Lexus engine in their Z4/Supra.

It's exactly the same story with the manual transmission. Long after BMW decided there will be no manual transmission on this platform, Toyota claimed that a M/T is not a big requirement for their focus group. :lol:

What I'm saying is that they shouldn't have co-developed the Z4 and Supra together and instead Toyota should have developed the Supra all in house and used the Lexus v-6tt and detuned it for Supra duty. This way, the Supra would have at least been designed and developed by Toyota/GR since being co-developed with BMW is leaving such a sour taste in people's mouth.
even the LC500 did not use the v6TT.

That engine is not going into any toyota lesser than $60k.

now imagine a $70K supra with 416hp and 440lbft of torque weight 3600lb 0-60 3.7secs. You will still have the its not a supra no inline 6 engine. oh my God is heavier than a toyota camry. Corvette is cheaper weight less and more powerful. who is going to pay $70K for a Toyota I can buy a used Porsche for that price..

You get the picture.

lol, they all sound pretty bad...

IMO, the best V6 sound atm are the current 3.5L 2GR platforms.
I'm not talking current, but Busso and C32B. Those two win when it comes to sound, personally.

Yes, but there actually are Toyota parts in the BRZ, many of the most important ones too (diff, tranny, PS, injection system). The new Sup is all BMW. But wahh, enough threads like this. I can think of at least 3 different scenarios to co-develop this car in a way better then they did, but this is what we got and its done. Buy it or don't, our opinions won't change a thing at this point (except maybe getting the manual we've been pleading for for years). And if you don't buy it, don't expect there to ever be another one.

As for 2jzgte parts being unattainable, not true. The v160 is the big thing where supply is all dried up (and the aftermarket has given us t56 and cd09 swap parts to compensate), but you can get just about everything for a 2jz still. There's a few non consumables that are out of production and getting hard to find like the plastic valve cover center trays, but please, the aftermarket and oem Toyota is not going to leave any 2jz owner high and dry for decades. I built a worked over 6mge not too long ago, now thats a platform that owners can legitimately complain about parts supply for.

It's not about WHEN at all. Thats what you are missing here.
focus groups and consumer surveys and any other method that gathers the "customer requirements" would steer any project towards what the target end user wants. So it taking place before or after any "public" announcement is irrelevant. It takes place very early in private, under NDAs, since obviously it has to happen before the engineering starts.

And

Toyota, its PR, Morizo, Tads-san (EDIT: A70 :p) ...etc are the most accurate sources, because guess what, they actually developed it. its illogical to brew up conspiracy theories while whom actually developed the thing itself is giving out the details.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't all modern V6's from Lexus open deck designs?...including the LS500's V35A-FTS?

If so, how is that a better option than a closed deck inline six?...regardless of who makes it.

The V35A-FTS does have an open deck. I would strongly suspect the B58 will take more abuse than the V35A.

open deck is never as good as closed deck for performance applications, so long as the cooling system is designed properly.
That is why I am going with a closed deck block for my STI this summer. Especially with aluminum blocks, closed deck is essential for high HP applications.

With that said however, I don't buy this crap that in today's day and age, that only partnering with other manufactures can produce cars like the mkV supra, its just plain hypocritical when you look at their profits, and then see what else they both pump out when they want to. There was no reason why Toyota couldn't have gone the WHOLE path themselves, from sketch to showroom floor. Call it what it is - purely a money saving exercise for the two - its business 101. To say they could NEVER have done this without BMW is utter BS.
Preach, absolutely. I still can't get over the fact that the same profit obsessed Toyota board who killed off every single Toyota sports car in the 2000s also greenlighted the LFA. What was the total cost on that one again? How much did they make (lose actually)? There's a project that benefited exactly 500 people world wide and did nothing to pull Toyotas boring, people mover appliance manufacturer reputation out of the dumpster. Hey I love the LFA as much as the next Toyota fiend, but that car was a giant waste of time and money. They could have given us a Lexus platform based 350z competitor back then, NA v6 and all and done wonders for their brand and enthusiast base, and then we'd be on generation 6 or 7 of a new all Toyota Supra right now sporting a turbo engine once again.

The LFA wasnā€™t developed to be a production car for the masses. Itā€™s sole purpose was to put their top engineers to the test of developing individual parts for the future of their cars. For example, the engine in the LFA was developed to demonstrate that a larger cylinder count engine can be made smaller and lighter than a smaller cylinder count engine. The LCD gauges, the fast shifting automatic trans, the carbon fiber components, etc... This was the purpose of the LFA....not to sell thousands of LFAā€™s to the masses like MKV or even MKIV. Itā€™s to eventually sell thousands of Lexus cars to the masses. Toyota today is NOTHING like Toyota 25yrs ago. Same goes for alot of manufactures. Bottom line is money! As long as SUVā€™s and Hybrids continue to be profitable, they will mass produce them and focus on in-house development because, IT IS PROFITABLE! Who knows, if enough MKVā€™s sell, the MKVI might be 100% in-house. Until then, forget the past....embrace the future. You only live once, stop worrying about 2JZā€™s and MKIVā€™s....move on and enjoy what is offered today.
