Pros and Cons of Selling

Ugh, not a thread I wanted to start but sometimes life gets in the way. I’m considering selling my 21 GR 3.0. And to be frank I could use the money but I am obviously hesitant.

My buddy who has owned several Vipers and other sports cars said to hold onto it. That it looks like only around 600 2021s in Turbulence Grey were made. Biased as I may be, I find that to be the best factory color I’ve seen for this car (no disrespect to all the other colors). When the sun hits it, man it ignites.

He sees the car appreciating fairly well over the next 10-20 years. Good news is that I keep her garaged and don’t drive her all that much at the moment. As I still owe some money on her, I am forced to pay full insurance even if I rarely drive it. My request to put her in storage mode for winter was denied by the lien-holder.

I am looking to pad my bank account as I consider buying a new home down the road. Yet, I freaking love this car and would hate to sell it, especially if it appreciates over the years.

Just looking for some advice from fellow Supra owners. What would you do?

If a house is your dream, go for it! You can always buy another Supra later. Just get the best deal on that home so you make enough money when you eventually sell it. Then you can go find another Supra ?

In my opinion, the chance of your car appreciating are slim to none, especially being an automatic.

Furthermore, if the rumors are true that Toyota (and others) will continue making similarly sleek manual ICE sports cars, ala MR-2/Celica in the near future, then the price of all our cars is likely to take a significant hit.

It was billed as the last hurrah for manual ICE cars but it is increasingly looking like they will live on another round or two, making the Supra MKV less relevant. And lets not forget that the BMW hate it garners only underpins the unlikelihood of it appreciating unfortunately.

Don't get me wrong, I think its a great car and its BMW DNA is one of its best traits, but alas the enthusiast car market doesn't work that way.

If you can't afford to just keep it, sell it. You shouldn't have bought it in the first place, to be frank.

You must be a young gun who lives with parents. no way in hell I’ll own anything close to a Supra without first owning a roof. Wouldn’t matter If you were gifted the rarest car, they are worthless until you own your own roof.
personal advise would sell the supra and buy cash for old Corolla/civic so you can put a down on your home. I don’t want any payments (car, credit, student loans) going into a house loan. Down the road buy what you want but at that point you covered risk In your life.
better to pay 200k for a Supra when your ready than paying 50k when you have too many open risk in your life.

You may be right but I have a hard time believing this car (if I keep it in excellent condition with the mileage low) won’t be worth more than I paid for it in 15 years, but you make some valid points. Thanks for the input.

It was an impulse purchase after a divorce. I’ve always wanted a Supra so I bought it. I can afford to keep it if I wish, but selling it would be pragmatic based on how often I drive it now versus the payments and insurance. Just life stuff.

Nope, not a young gun. I’ve already owned a home. Got divorced, bought the car, I currently live in a rental and own property in Astoria, Oregon. I’m thinking as much as I love this rental with killer views, recently renovated, The landlord could decide to sell it anytime. Selling my property plus the car would give me a sweet down payment to buy a nice home here.

Almost every car depreciates. You may as well enjoy it while you can but I hope you're right as I'm hoping to keep mine long term too!
