Not sure how America does it but stuff like this goes under comprehensive claim. Long as you don't file "theft" or some higher pedigree claim, it won't take a hit on premiums at all.
They can raise our rates here for almost anything. It never makes sense to put in a claim you can afford to pay for. They will get their money back and then some, in the long run.

Yeah my volkswagen door handle broke and that was a nightmare replacing it, but finally figured out a trick after the passenger side broke. Fucking corrados.
Love the name ? Hate the drug however. Way too many people get hooked on that ?

Most peeps on this forum are helpful. Ignore the fakebook trolls that found your thread.

Anyway, Whoever helped thanks the window has been replaced and I'm ready to rock now. Appreciate the people that actually tried to help out, the rest of you can go kick rocks and remain worthless.

So, brother-in-law car window got smashed in a car robbery this last weekend.
Cost to replace in cash... $300 parts and labor (New Acura.)
This is San Francisco Bay Area - so not cheap. Just putting this here in case people may not have the time, talent or tools to DIY.

Wow, tough crowd today. Trolls on here can go sit in a circle jerk with the vandals that trashed OPs car. For this car, it's not uncommon to not drive it much. So sitting for a while with it broken isn't that big of a surprise. And do a quick forum search for problems installing downpipe to find a good number of people that don't have the right tools or know how. And the insurance company is just a hassle -- anything short of totaled on the side of the road isn't wroth the hassle. OP is in good company. F the trolls and vandals.

really. normally this only happens for the first year or two when everyone says just take your car to a dealer or shop when people want to do their own work. the platform is going on 5 years old. crazy a DIY question is geting this much kickback.

and, newsflash: insurance is throwing money away. if it made financial sense to the majority, no insurance company would make money. high deductible makes sense in any case where you can afford to repair stuff yourself.

Threads like these are good for distant future readers. I'm dealing with a similar issue on my Liability only insured Ranger and I can't find a forum post for the life of me explaining what I'm looking for.

Sure it might make more sense now to use insurance, but who gives a shit? Give the information and let everyone benefit now and years from now when some poor schmuck is stuck on the same thing.
