I am thinking about trading my 2019 Mustang GT for a Supra. Anyone did the same with regrets?

You might miss the sound of the V8, thats for sure.

Both are fun cars with huge aftermarket support - can you check on Turo or something and maybe rent one?

Not sure about the s550 gt, but I test drove/cross shopped the s650 gt against the supra recently. I have always been a big Mustang fan, but did not like the way the new mustang felt compared to the Supra. Its throttle response felt much more sluggish, and the car just felt much bigger and heavier, despite actually being pretty fast. I do admit that the Supra doesn't sound nearly as nice.

That said, my 2017 gt350 feels just as responsive as the Supra and sounds much better, so I definitely wouldn't give it up for the Supra.

My wife had a 2016 5.0 GT manual. It was fantastic! But not nearly as refined as this Toyota/BMW Supra. Both out of the box and with some basic suspension mods. The Supra is more of a precision track tool and the Mustang was more like a sledge hammer. Best way I could describe driving both around a track.

Oh and…. the Mustang V8 would get hot as hell. Even in the cabin. Wrapping the exhaust did help a little bit.

So I definitely have only a couple years on the S550 and I did have a fully loaded Mach 1 with track pack and everything. I will say that I loved every minute that I was in that car up till I got rid of it. The biggest thing that was already mentioned in this thread was the sound. That Mach 1 (xpipe resonator delete) was THE best sounding vehicle I've ever heard IMO which @Traxion can chime in on as well since he did get to ride/drive/& hear it as well.

There were a few things I did have going on with that car that I wasn't sure I'd really be able to get fixed and kept hanging over me on that car as well which helped push me more toward the Supra direction. Trans and MIL/wrench light issue that were both very intermittent, albeit, I was able to get the trans to act up fairly frequently just not whenever I tried bringing it in to the dealer.

The Supra definitely is faster than the Mach 1 without a doubt in all aspects from off the line, rolling, everything. I never did end up doing any tracking with the Mach 1 while I had it unfortunately so I didn't get to experience how well all of that played out on the vehicle but I doubt it would have handled better than the Supra does.

I have 0 regrets going from my Mach 1 to the Supra. The only thing that the mustang definitely had over the Supra was the exhaust note and the Supra doesn't sound bad by any means it just isn't the same.

TLDR: Get the Supra

I had a 2017 5.0 manual here in Australia. I've now got an auto Supra.

For daily driving, it was really comfortable compared to the Supra. Heaps of space inside. I felt like the Mustang was built for bigger people. It was a really fast, couch on wheels.

On the roads, I never floored first gear - it just never put the power down safely. That was the weirdest thing for me going to the Supra vs Mustang. You floor the Supra from a standstill and you have all the confidence in the world.

The Supra visually looks another step up in tiers of "epic feeling" in person. The Ford infotainment system was actually really good too. I preferred the Mustang suspension setup, as I don't track these cars.

For me, in a nutshell - Mustang felt all brawn and no brain. Sounded epic as with the x-force cat back. The Supra has it over the Mustang in most areas.

30+ mustang owner here. Multiple supercharged 10 speed & manual GT’s, Boss 302/Mach 1’s/2020 GT500/‘03 Cobra, 2024 PP GT, you name it. They are fast and reliable (excluding my daughter’s GT350 engine) but often need aftermarket parts to complete them (GT500 withstanding).

The Supra IMO comes complete out of the box. It truly needs nothing. It’s pure fun. It looks amazing. And turns heads of all ages.

I’m on my 3rd MKV (new ‘24) and will pass this one down to my youngest son (my oldest has my Phantom ‘20) who currently owns a 10 speed ‘20 GT.

You definitely won’t regret the switch.

I'm genuinely surprised to hear this including the GT500. Do you still have this car or did you get rid of it? Or I suppose it should be more along the lines of, what year was the GT500?

That is about the only car I wouldn't imagine someone would get rid of for a Supra, or possibly also a GT350. The Supra just has more than any of the Mustang variants I feel like other than the S550 GT500.

This is what I wanted to hear from previous s550 owners. Yes, the v8 does sound good! So I won't be regretting it. Thanks!

Owning both cars right now I’d say you won’t regret the switch, especially how great out of the box this platform is. But I will say that the raw feeling you get with the Mustang won’t be here. Like what FLTrackDays said earlier, Supra is definitely a precision tool while the Mustang feels like a sledgehammer. Size is a concern if you are planning to daily the Supra, but you can definitely still do Costco runs as long as there’s no passenger lol. Size comparison courtesy of my driveway camera

I also had a few 5.0s and agree with what's been said here. There's some other similar threads that I've posted my experiences in.

Something I didn't see mentioned is that Mustangs are pretty basic, so unless you go all out with the body mods, they fly under the radar (shelbys excluded). This means I don't worry so much about bringing the Mustang to places like sporting events, concerts, or other populated areas. People aren't likely to notice it and fuck with it.

I got rid of my 21 refraction A91 (started burning oil) for the 2020 GT500. Unfortunately, that car had DCT issues. I had planned to tune it but didn’t want to be responsible for a new tranny. I later found out after selling it that some of them shipped from the factory with low fluid, which caused the issue (slamming into reverse).

I will definitely be in another one sometime down the road. They are special.

I went the opposite direction because my lease came up and got a good deal on a 2022 GT Premium 10 speed, plus I always wanted to have a v8 muscle car to mess with.

GT:
Pros: Better daily, bigger (could be a pro or a con), v8 noises, cheaper (cost, parts, gas, insurance went down a lot) , faster over 70 mph
Cons: not as refined, A10 is no where as good a ZF, floaty handling, less cool factor

Supra:
Pros: Faster to 60, out of the box race car, looks sweet, handles on rails, true sports car
Cons: Dealing with BMW's nonsense, locked ecu, more money, not the best daily (but , not bad... i did it for 3 years), visibility is crap

VIR Trackdaze full course in 2021 GT500

I pop in screen at the 7min mark.
They are fast for sure. He would gain on me in the straights.

several sections of track had oil and oil dry. So, I had to go easy in spots. 7 cars looped it at roller coaster. I get held up by traffic and he is able to get me back in a great close up too.
