Did a quick thread search, didnt see an answer

Picked up my new 2025 last week, and when I plugged in radar detector (that has functioned perfectly in our other 2 cars), noticed it stays on even when car is off/locked. Is this power socket always on? I've never had a car that kept its accessories socket on after it was turned off (to avoid battery rundown), so this surprised me.

I do have a fear that there is something wrong with the socket, as on day 3 the socket blew its fuse and I found myself taking apart the fuse cover under the glove box with under 300 miles on the car to replace a fuse.

BTW, the fasteners on that fuse box cover are insidious to get back on, just saying.

Any thoughts welcome

How long have you waited? I use the 12v socket for a dashcam and it shuts off after a few minutes.

so far I've waited approx. 5 minutes.
currently trying a longer test
it also energizes when the car is off and the cord is then plugged in
leading me to believe this circuit is always hot

lock the door and have the key far from the car then check when it'll power off

It is the dumbest, most idiotic, useless feature I’ve ever heard of. BMW intentionally designed accessory power to stay on for either 6 or 7 minutes, can’t remember which, unless you lock the doors, hold the radio power button down, or change the appropriate iDrive setting. Find and turn on the turn off power after door opening (or something like that) and problem solved.
I won’t include the usual read the manual since it’s damn near impossible to find it.

ok thanks! this seemed to work after approx 7-10 minutes

that's a relief I will try to find that setting in the car settings to not worry over it further

still bugged that it blew a fuse on day three but who knows, there has to be faulty fuses sometimes, right?

still slugging my way through the manual not even halfway through it yet LOL

Somewhat of an over reaction to something you can have of not have depending on your preference by a simple menu selection. You need get out more, lol. Pretty much all modern cars are not fully powered down immediately after turning off. If you want to do a parasitic draw test on just about any modern car you need to wait for around 45 min before all the various electronic modules are fully de powered. Just the way it is.

This is one of the reasons why most modern vehicles are equipped with AGM batteries
