FWIW I took my springs out (thus losing the auto open) due to the springs putting so much preload on the struts, they would come off the ball-head on the hatch while driving and I was worried what would happen if both came off at once.

Yea, personally, I would recommend against doing the auto-open mod with the struts I got. The trunk lid flies open kinda violently. I don't have any evidence that shows this is bad for it long-term but it definitely makes me feel uncomfortable. Prior to installing them, I had to put a ton of effort into lifting. Now, I actually hold the lid down a bit until it's fully open.
The ones you got I'm assuming have some sort of extra strength for opening. I wonder if you'd be better off with the other ones I saw most of the guys in here got.

Have you adjusted the nubs in the back that push the trunk open at all as well? Maybe there's a bit of tension from that too causing the extra "spring" when opening the hatch?

I've had no issues with the ones I selected.
Thanks for posting. I looked back and found what you got and will go with those springs. Looks like it works perfect with them. @Andrew4Supra curious, where did you get the springs you used so I can get the same ones to make sure I'm not hunting for multiple different ones to try and get the same effect?

When I first installed my struts and red springs, it opened up nicely. But after keeping the trunk closed for an extended period, it no longer opens itself. But I kept both installed, red springs to keep the trunk from closing when I close my doors. Strut is a must-have for heavy wings. Strong enough to hold it up.

Digging up this old thread because my previous car was totaled so I'm "building" a new Supra.

My last spec was 2 17in 120lb struts:
https://www.liftsupportsdepot.com/1...10mm-ez-release-ball-sockets-se170p120ez10-w/

And 2 100mm blue springs:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B096B1KQ12?_encoding=UTF8&th=1

This worked, but had a bit of rattle / excessive force, so I didn't want to blindly order the same spec again.

This time I measured the car and it seems the OEM length is around 18.06, this is measured with the tip of the tape measure on TOP of the bottom ball socket, so this isn't a "middle to middle" measurement:

I've ordered 2 of the longer struts (the only 18.06in was 129lbs, 9lbs stronger than the previous) with 116lb force to see if this will help:
https://www.liftsupportsdepot.com/1...-with-compact-10mm-ball-sockets-pm3680n10s-w/

Then I ordered the same 2 springs above, and another posters 90mm red springs, I'll try both and compare:

Watching this closely because I need stronger struts. I have the swan neck VX1 wing and the car has tried to decapitate me twice when I open the trunk and put my head in there to adjust or fix something. ?

Are you on a fully stock setup now? You'll need struts to avoid the trunk killing you, and springs for auto open.

Thanks. yes I am on stock set up now and the car has tried to kill me already.

I’m gonna read this entire thread and get clues about what I need.

It doesn't take a surgeon to find the strut PNs...It's first page.

Ordered. I wont need the springs unless the car gets ordered into battle to use the trunk door as catapult against a horde of barbarians. I just need the car to stop trying to kill me.

As an added anecdote, The trunk closed on me while I was inside it bolting the roll bar and the battery was disconnected. With the wing on top it gets a lot of force going down and I was very close to be kidnapped by my on car.

I think I have a video because I was recording the whole installation of the roll bar… If TikTok was not gonna get banned I would probably get viral with it

I’m running out of things to do with the car. ???. Walking a fine line between a cool car and the most viewed post on the Supra RICEr thread here
