Battery Replacement Question…

I need to replace my battery as the old one is getting old (not chrging properly) and there are a few options I can buy, but none of them are an exact spec match to my original battery.

The original one fitted is: 900 CCA, 90Ah where I can get one the exact same size, but is 850 CCA, 95Ah.

Or I can get one that is longer at 395mm with a spec of 950 CCA, 105Ah where the mounting bracket in the car has 2 positions where it looks like it can be moved to accommodate the bigger battery.

Can anyone tell which would be the best solution?

I did have a look at a YouTube video using BimmerLink to do the battery reset part where I don’t really get what that does other than log the amount of mileage a battery has on it and configuring the battery spec. Also, it seems bimmerlink only wants to know the Ah number and does not care about the CCA, but again is that true or does the CCA have to be at least the original battery spec number?

Can’t answer the size question but the battery reset is to tell the charging system (smart changing) in the car to charge a a different rate..

In cold climates you might opt for the bigger CCA (cold cranking amps), or if you listen to the stereo for an extended period of time with the car off go for the Ah Amp hours. If you don't care too much about either of those, go for price.

There are kind of 2 things to code: 1) The simple fact that the battery was replaced, so that the car can reset its charging algorithm, and 2) The new Ah if it changed.

You can sometimes run into an Ah rating that isn't an option during the coding. In that case, go down to the closest one - you'd prefer to be slightly undercharged and not over charged.

Ok cool, I guess since I’m not living in Finland that getting an 850 CCA vs the original 900 CCA battery is not going to make any real difference.

I was worried the car was somehow going detect/complain about the missing 50 CCA and go all diva on me! ?

Oh, and good advice on choosing the lower Ah rating as from the vid I saw the defaults were 90Ah, 105Ah, while the battery I am getting is 95Ah ?

Right. A big, old truck in Alaska would need all the CCA it can get. A Supra in the UK not so much.

I would say yes to the battery reset as it’s part of the normal process where I don’t 100% know what the smart charging does. I mean, for all I know it takes into account the battery age where it charges differently over the battery life time.
