and if it were you, given you have an 86 (I had one too) and a proper-powered 6 speed A80.... would you wait for a manual, or is the ZF8 enough fun? :p

If I was sure the manual was coming in 1-2 years, I'd probably wait. But being not sure and also with the potential for it to be 3+ years maybe, the ZF will do just fine.

Guff, 2 things I kept meaning to ask but forgetting.

1. Does it have a cruise control speed limiter. Like how the 86s can't be set above 68mph?

2. Is there a power outlet (cigarette lighter outlet) in the glove box? Thats how I plug most of my things in, like my dashcam.

I didn't check the limiter on the Supras cruise. I was cruising at 80 tho. The 86 is limited at 4000rpm fwiw, so it's rpm based not speed. Don't know if the Supra has anything of the sort. Same system as BMW though, so you can check BMW cars maybe?

No power in the glovebox, I looked. Just the one in the center. So my radar detector is gonna have to probably get hardwired.

Damn. Guess radar and camera will have to be hardwired. I hope it's not gonna be a pain in the ass.

Also, with the 86, i don't kbow if it's all that are RPM based, but i have a 1st gen and I'm not sure 68 mph is 4k rpm. I'll have to check later. I just want it to be easier to keep up with traffic AND use cruise control. Lol.

Thanks for the answers

68 mph max cruise control is ridiculous! I am sure the Supra won’t have that. Especially with its German heritage. ;)

I love in a state where most roads are 65 and the interstate is 75mph. If there is a 68mph max, I will be disappointed. On my past bmws you could set the cruise as high as you wanted....as well as extremely low....around 25mph if I remember correctly.

FWIW the Aussie 86 (first gen) can set the cruise on 160kmh (100mph) if you like :p

Yeah, I have a 2013 and the stock limiter is 91mph, 4k rpm in 6th gear. Mine is tuned out though. I do a ton of cross country driving in 86s so I'm real familiar with the cruise control lol.

Odd. Mine won't let me set above 68. Never had that adjusted with a tune, either. Ah well, won't matter for much longer.

The Bimmers are built to cruise the autobahn, and the ZF’s overdrive starts at like 5th or something. This car will probably let you use cruise control far above 100 mph.

Great vid and review! But jeez, could you have found a more clapped out mk4 to compare it too? lol Was that a giant rust hole in the rocker? I have never seen a mk4 with a rust hole before here on the west coast. I think "when people think of Supra..." they think of slightly nicer ones lol. Also, was it mechanically as clapped out as its exterior condition, because you guys spend a lot of time comparing how the 2 cars drive back to back.

Entertaining vid just the same! Glad you like the new one.

Probably one of the best stock MKIVs I've driven mechanically ironically enough haha. Almost everything underneath had been replaced very recently. New OE brakes, suspension, bushings, motor was fully gone over too. The car is getting a full restoration done, just isn't going into the body shop until the winter. Definitely pretty clapped out from the exterior, but a ton of midwest Supras look like that sadly.

I had a super clean 97 Ren Red TT car lined up but that ended up falling through last minute, so the owner of this car was gracious enough to let me borrow it on short notice. That being said, the 97 has bad valve stem leakage and the bushings in the rear subframe are reasonably perished, so the car shimmies a little. That's the sad irony of these all-original cars. In the end, the ratty looking 94 drove better than that 97 did.
