Yea I’m so glad your suspicions were based. I drove about 150 miles after the car was initially smoking. If damage to the engine was done, is there a way to tell to what extent? Should I be asking them to check certain things?OK thats fairly easy and a million miles from a blown HG. I had pretty strong suspicions that the original diagnosis was wide of the mark esp when the issue is under hood smoke and the coolant levels are fine.
You can crack the valve cover if you're ham fisted removing the engine cover I think. The l/h rear cover post is a bit vulnerable and it may be there it's cracked.
