Thanks everyone. Out here, insurance follows the car not the person driving, that is true. My insurance is taking this. Kind of a bitch, but whatever.

First off, glad youre okay. My quick background, I've been in insurance for 12.5 years so I know how it works.

I am assuming you have a standard policy with collison coverage. So you'll be paid whatever the actual cash value is (I suspect below 60k depending on year and miles). And unless you purchase additional coverage (or have a policy I'm not aware of) you'll barely be paid for the aftermarket parts. Basically pennies compared to what you bought them for.

Insurance companies dont value aftermarket parts as adding value. In most cases they subtract from the value. So you get paid the most for as close to stock as the car can be (for the most part).

Good luck with the experience, I hope you have a speedy recovery and if you have any questions let me know.

Also, thank you for taking the bullet and reminding me why I've never let anyone drive any of my cars.
Thanks. Not expecting anything close to 1:1 reimbursement for mods. She was a 2024 3.0 premium MT. The claim reports 7600 miles. The initial "repair estimate" came in today at $45,922. My adjuster said "this is an estimate written to show the car is a total, not a reflection of a settlement." Hoping to know the numbers later today, but might be next week. If it's less than 55k I'll be pissed. I'm hoping 60-62 or so, but guessing somewhere between 55-60. No idea, this is a first for me. 36 years old and I've still never caused an accident. So I've got that going for me, which is nice.

That said, there's a brand new White 2025 3.0 premium inbound to my local Toyota dealer. Talked to a guy at Toyota in Oahu, said the sales lady at my Toyota referred a sale to him not long ago, so he told me to hold off flying to Oahu, save time and work with my dealer here. He's getting her to give me a deal since she gave him a sale recently, so it's looking like I'd be able to secure this brand new 3.0 Premium for 58k which is amazing. Fingers crossed. Hopefully insurance doesn't really fuck me backwards.

Wait, you mean to say Mr. Crustacea the Mansplainer was sharing incorrect information again? Say it ain't so.

Hope things go smoothly for you @sanasupra!

There are more supras on the island at dealers then anywhere else in the country so you have that working for you. Oahu roads and Toyota's allocation strategy+ the state bird being a Toyota Tacoma make for a lot of supras.

Crazy right? I come in here with absolute facts about insurance (12.5 years in this industry) and hes gotta tell me I'm wrong. He comes back and comments here and then doesnt admit he's wrong either. Glad to know I'm not the only one who notices this.

To the OP, sounds like things might work out well for you given the shitty situation. Fingers crossed for you brother and seriously if you have any insurance questions just DM me.

He does/did that all the time. At least he didn't get all defensive and say "why should I share my hard work with you?!?!" like he did when I challenged him on some other asinine statement he made.

"why should I share my hard work with you?!?!" with him is code for: "I don't actually know what I am talking about and since you called me on it, I will now demean and deflect"

Update: insurance came back, starting at 58k after deductible for payout. Not amazing, but not as bad as I was fearing. Working on signing the new one now, and will try negotiating higher. Seems it's working out decently enough.

I’m in NC, but I have had friends use a company called Collision Safety Consultants that help people get fair market value for their cars for diminished value claims and I think “totals”. Definitely worth a conversation. They have a Facebook page and some stories are mind boggling.

Congrats on the car!!
Would love to hear an update!!
Thank you 😊

Still working through the insurance negotiation process but given that the starting payout valuation before my mod list is even considered, post deductible, and before any negotiation is more than I bought her for, in a good place there. Will ask about status of it today probably.

Sana 2.0 was delivered to my dealer on Friday, picked her up yesterday and went for a ~100 mile drive. Started with 14 miles on the clock. Feels amazing to be back so quickly.

Told my tint and detail guy about it. He had a similar situation with a truck of his that he basically built from the ground up and in memory of his dad passing away. His friend took it to a truck show, was an inconsiderate idiot, launched it, lost control, and totaled it into another vehicle. He knows the pain, sounds like even more than myself.. So he's redoing my ceramicoat and tint for free. That's aloha spirit 🤙

Already have my original parts and more on order... Gonna be a fun install party!
