I have an error of outer left parking sensor blindness. It seems to be intermittent and I checked the outermost left sensor on the bumper closest to the wheel well. I hope I have checked the correct one before ordering a new part.

Does anyone have a map or listing of the names of the parking sensors and their locations?

Thanks.

Parts lists 4 sensors up front, but I count 6...

Does anyone know the naming of the different sensors in the bumper?

Center L, Outer L, Super duper outer L!?

1. Front Inner (in the nubs below the nose)
2. Front Outer
3. Front Side (near the reflector)

Repeat for the other side.

Did you have your bumper repainted? That can put them out of calibration.
Thank you for this!!

I have a tow hook license plate adapter which I adjusted a lot which I believed would avoid any issue. The parking assistance was working well for 3 months.

Now I have error: Sensor Technology front outside left - blindness detected.

The sensor has the smallest of centre dots like a scratch, but perfect and it's different from the other sensors BUT it's always had this since I bought the car 6 months ago.

With this intermittent parking assistance, I should have immediately removed the license plate rather than assume it was correctly adjusted and the issue is with the sensor. I'll do the test this weekend and see what happens. (Not driving with a front license plate while living across from a police station influenced me!)

I never had the bumper painted or anything.

I’m the second owner. I put on the tow hook license plate that the prior owner used and adjusted the plate until the parking sensor worked.

Then after getting a second key made for the car, the sensor / radar worked intermittently until it didn’t. Il

I got a new EOS plate that could pull the plate back further but the error still appears and no more sensor / radar when parking.

I’ve tried to clear the errors with bimmerlink, unplug the battery, clean the sensors and rubber housing with alcohol and wd40. Still same message.

I’m hesitant to pull the bumper off due to the work involved… but I guess that’s next to then inspect the sensor and to clean it and the wiring…

If that fails then i’ll have to find a replacement sensor and install that.

Yesterday morning, for a brief second I had the sensor / radar come up as I started the car then I got the parking sensor failed message again.

The parking sensor / radar is useful for parking near curbs etc.

I’m pretty certain it’s the sensor number 2 in this picture.

Anyone have any ideas? Much appreciated! Thanks!

if the sensor surface has any nick/chip/rub or any sort of damage it'll throw codes. so clean them well and check. forgot if the sensors are interchangeable. if they are try swapping left to right and see if the error codes follow

Great tips.

i cleaned today with isopropyl alcohol then around the edges of the rubber housing. No luck.

Rip. I too have developed this error post front bumper replacement. Except mines the front right, completely opposite of the side of my car that took a deer to it.

Also hesitant to remove the bumper due to the labor.

Thanks for this reassurance!!!! I needed that!

@Rensuhlo I see on Ebay there are a number of sensors for sale from Germany at a reasonable price...

Took off the bumper. Lots of little stuff. Tape off the lights to avoid scratches. Took 3+ hours - just annoying. Not hard.

played with the sensors and cleaned and used dielectric grease. Didnt help

still have front outer left sensor blindness and no radar :(

to confirm before i order a part - front outer left sensor is #2 in the diagram?

These are two left sensors. The black L shaped is the front left. And the brown is the most L beside the wheel arch.

I pulled out a multimeter and both had similar resistances.

Hold up, it took you 3+ hours to just take the bumper off? or take the bumper off, do all of the above and put the bumper back on?
