Need to rant a bit - please feel free to call me unc like my kids do
I like a nice weekend drive in the Supra, and sometimes a good time for that is on a Friday or Saturday evening. Here in the Chicago suburbs, that means having multiple people in one evening drive like suicidal maniacs when they see my car. Last night I had a dude in a Camaro acting crazy trying to line up with me while I’m cruising at 60mph, even leaning halfway out of his window motioning for me to line up. What in the Need For Speed - Dude, leave me alone. He finally gave up. Then about 15 minutes later, a guy in a ratted out old 3 series bimmer tailgated me so hard, I am sure there was less than 6” between our bumpers while going like 20mph in downtown traffic. He’s flashing his lights at me and weaving, then when I hit the turn lane, he flies by at WOT over 3 sets of train tracks to probably 60mph in a super busy area. I don’t get it - you like my car and consider yourself a ‘car guy’ so you do things that risk damaging my car? I’ve got black stock wheels on right now with all seasons - so the car looks nearly stock in its winter form. I’m not running around with a big wing and a flame tune…
I can ignore people, that’s fine, but some of these instances are either dangerous or risk damaging my clean car or make it look like I’m participating in hooning in busy traffic or where there are pedestrians.
I’ve had this car for over 2 years, and have shown people (wife, coworkers, friends) while driving that the mere sight of a Supra makes some people instantly floor their own car, even if headed the other direction - wtf? And it’s usually the shittiest, most ratted-out cars imaginable. Last night had me wondering if I should sell the car, though I’m not sure I really want to do that. I occasionally expect to let my teenage son drive it and I don’t need people doing crazy shit around him.
<end old man yells at cloud.exe>
Is this a common experience or just a Chicago thing or am I just a boring dude?
