I've heard back from Milltek who are saying that their GPF back exhaust is no louder than the stock version with the silencer and that they offer a "race" version without silencer, but this is also without a valve to control the volume in normal mode.

I'm wondering if there are any other options out there that would give a louder exhaust, but still retain the valving system? Akrapovic I think offer this, but haven't got any experience with them, other than them seeming expensive.
If you put downpipes in, it makes the same volume as the american ones as it removes the particulate filter

can still use valves then

Not necessarily true... I think you have to swap out more than the downpipe in a UK car, we have OPF’s too that I don’t think the yank exhaust has

ah ok, maybe you’re right then

I’m really in two minds about wether to modify, still not even run in yet. On 500 miles

With emissions rules our cars are choked massively. The back pressure restricts power output so the more free flowing the intake and exhaust is, the better.

The intake isn’t restrictive until you start pushing big power, the exhaust however... well that’s a different story as cats (meow)/filters really get in the way. Without these, the car can breathe easier and also will sound louder and more aggressive but it’ll need to be combined with a map and also would fail an MOT but easily reversed

They really sniff the cars there? Not just an obd2 check? I have many clients across the water and dont recall them having issues going catless as long as the obd2 checks out

Well... haha to the letter of the law, yes. They do both a visible check and an emission check as part of an MOT test for cars with cats/DPF/OPF’s etc.

Any car has to pass an MOT annually once it reaches three years old. There are some “friendly” testers out there that’ll let it slide, tricking the system by shoving the pipe up another car etc but as time goes by the government are getting hotter and hotter on it so they mystery shop garages and check up on them, if they’re caught dodging the emissions check it has pretty major implications.

If you’re a petrolhead, chances are you’ll know someone that’ll get it through which is why there are so many catless cars but they want to crack down on it.

Yeah tested at annual MOTs which isn't an issue for a new car as it's not tested for the first 3 years, but there is also the (small) chance you can be stopped for a roadside check: https://www.gov.uk/emissions-testing

My WRX STI had a sports cat, but would still fail emissions on an MOT check at local garages. If I took it to a specialist a long way away, it always passed first time. I didn't ask many questions as I got pass certificate, but I'm a bit more worried about the Supra.

There is even talk of introducing checks on how loud exhausts are: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-48564995

I think I'm going to go for the Milltek silenced version after all, so will let you know how I get on.

Glad Milltek gave you that info, saved me 2k... The Remus sound files were also very disappointing.
Browsed through you tube to see how custom exhausts on other B58 GPF cars sound and must say they all sound like garbage.

The GPF is located in the midpipe section and there is a sensor in the downpipe to see if it's there (and/or clogged)
If you remove it you will have to code it out or you'll get a CEL and maybe even temp issues (GPF cars have to maintain a certain exhaust temp for the GPF to work)

That's what they used to do in Germany, but now they really sniff our exhausts like in the old days, all because of Volkswagon and their evil software....

I've gone for the Miltek valved in the end as it's got a different sound, not that much louder, but a different tone. Booked in for it to be done next Wednesday, so i'll report back.

[Edit] they've posted a comparison video on instagram:

Also Litchfield have updated their page, showing the Stage 1 for ÂŁ600 inc VAT - https://www.litchfieldmotors.com/toyota/supra
no point having it done over the winter (and with only 480 miles on the clock), but next spring i'll be looking closely at this option.

Not meaning to sound like an ar*e so i do apologies. But what is the point if it all it really does is change the tone?

Alot of money for a slight difference

I think we're all thinking the same tay. I'm working on something that will give an increase in volume too.

So who is tuned now then? Seeing more and more posts of UK owners tuning the supra.

Just wondering what the feedback is

Garage-D in Berkhamsted did mine.
Superb results, fully tested in my car. Thousands of miles on the tune with no issues. They spent ages on the dyno and the road getting it right. They should have their own dyno set up any day now so we’ll spend even more time perfecting it.
