Hey All,

I fairly new to ECU mapping and will be picking up a new Supra over the winter. While I'd most likely go with a custom ECU flash over something that I created, I'd like to gain a good understanding of the operation behind the scenes. The information out there, while abundant, is not so specific in most cases outside of custom\3rd party ECU platforms. I'm looking for map editing software for the A90 (BMW) ECU. Is there an editor which takes into account the specifics of this ECU? Also, I'd like a stock map file from an A90. Can anyone assist?

Thank you

George

Me too I've asked a few tuners over messaging or email and got small amounts of info but not enough for me understand the process. These tuners are pretty hush hush on the MHD side. I guess they make money at this so they don't want to make it too easy. Im a little annoyed at this considering this should be a tuners car and a tuners community.
Bootmod 3 sounds like its more user friendly for taking an existing tune saving it and then making changes.
Ecutek may be available after SEMA.
Twisted Tuning does have a lifetime tuning option for MHD and I'm good with paying them. But I want to learn how to tune this platform. I don't like relying on anyone or a single company. I'm new to this platform not new to tuning.
Twisted tuning can you help us out?

I have been told tunerpro is what some use
It would have to understand the specific format of the ECU's bin and know how to identify maps and parameters. It looks like there are definition files available however, none for the new Supra. Cannot locate definition for the B58 either. I'm wondering if the definition can be found elsewhere?

Thanks

If you were able to log parameters and get definitions. You could easily translate those to make tuning adjustments. Then its just trial and error.

Yes, for sure. Obtaining the definition file would make life so easy. Still digging. WinOLS appears to be the editor used by a number of BMW tuners based on what I have seen.

I will work on it as well. So if one of us buy a tune. Which is an xdf. File we could share it correct?

The XDF is the definition which exposes the maps\parameters within the ECU dump. Without the XDF, you have to figure out where all of the regions are within dump and this can be a daunting task. Some editors indicate possible map regions however, there can be dozens and you would have no way of know what each map did unless you were an expert. The XDF can be distributed and used by anyone working with a particular ECU. The ECU dump (bin) is generally specific to each vehicle as it contains VIN info and custom settings\maps. I'm going to start with an editor and stock bin just to poke around for the time being. I don't have a Supra as of yet however I wanted to figure things out well before I picked up the car.

I found an XDF as well as a bin for the Supra (I assume the author made the Supra specific edits). I'm hoping this can get those with some interest started in the process. Now the fun begins - digging into this things to understand how it works. I have included links to the XDF\bins and TunerPro RT below:

B58 Supra XDF and BINs:

What exactly do you guys want? honestly speaking no tuner is going to give you everything. Because that would be taking money out of our pockets to keep our shops running. It's not really about the editor. its all about the tables. any hex editor can edit map data, but if you dont know where to edit, thats the problem. i have about 20 different software types and editors to support all the platforms i support.

The XDF posted here is from me and MHD. we put tons of time and hours into this stuff, so that is why we dont always give information out more than that. because we've already given the table data for free. some people still wont like that answer though, as some will feel like we owe them more than that as well.

Also, any tune sent from an actual tuner, will probably be locked and you will not be able to edit it anyway. I know i lock my tunes. There is a lot of theft in this industry, so thats why. For anyone wanting to try, you will just take the bin and start from scratch.

I'm just looking to learn the process. I really don't have the time to tune my own stuff anymore.

I'm in IT and develop software when required. I understand the use of editors and while they all essentially perform the same task, some may aid the development process better than others. I had a look at what people in the B58 community were using and went via the WinOLS route initially. Today, I found the XDF for TunerPro and decided to give that a whirl.

As I have an extensive technical background outside of the automotive world, I naturally gravitate to the bit-and-bytes behind everything I become involved in. Back in 95, I purchased a Z28 and within a week had it up on stands, installed a blower, headers, upgraded the fuel system, etc. Ran it on a dyno, obtained incredible gains and the car ran superbly on the street and track for several years until I sold it. I had done this without a stitch of automotive knowledge beyond changing oil, plugs and belts. I spent months researching my project before purchasing the car. The experience was worth every penny and second that I put into it!

I have no intention to sell anything as I make more than I need as Director of IT for a large organization. This is just another learning experience for me and I hope to have some fun with it. If I don't follow the general tuning guidelines and blow something up, I'll have it fixed or replace the engine\vehicle. Sorry about the fact that your edited ROM was published - I had no part in posting this information. Again, I'm in it for the fun and learning experience - nothing else.

Thank you
