How is a battery not covered??? That's bullshippy....

There is NO WAY A BATTERY should not be covered that early.

Iā€™ve already had to replace my battery at around 5k miles. $650. That was $ I had saved for my front power brace. Dealer said the TX temp swings will eat these batteries up, and I should plan on replacing it every 4 months.
Sounds like your car sat in a show room with people in and out of it for a month.

What!?! There is no way that can be right. If that's the case then I'll have to replace mine every 3 months... well maybe 3.5. And people in the Middle East would be replacing theirs every other week in the summer.

That battery should have been replaced under warranty anyway... at the least it's not specifically excluded by name... so legally it's covered.
Basic Coverage1 36 months/36,000 miles (all components other than normal wear and maintenance items).
Maintenance items excluded in warranty:
Maintenance ExpenseNormal maintenance services such as:ā€¢ Engine tune-upsā€¢ Replacement of fluids and filtersā€¢ Lubricationā€¢ Cleaning and polishingā€¢ Replacement of spark plugs and fuses ā€¢ Replacement of worn wiper blades, brake pads/linings and clutch linings
Now obviously they would say it's the same as the oil, wiper blades, or spark plugs... but I would fight that and escalate up the chain. Toyota warranties the batteries in their hybrids for 10 years. If they can't even provide a battery which will last 1 year, then that's a defect claim. Never mind the fact that it's virtually guaranteed it was "damaged" by the dealership by discharging prior to your receipt of the vehicle.

I had a question about my battery and was told it was covered under warranty and not to worry if there was an issue.

That sounds more like it. I'll accept having to replace it in 3-4 years... the desert is hell on batteries after all. If it can't go ~36 months regardless of environmental conditions... then the wrong battery design was selected by the manufacturer and should be remedied by the same.

ask another dealership. How often do you drive your car? Battery tender on it? Doesnā€™t make any sense

yeah, Iā€™m calling around. I daily it. Dealership says itā€™s the TX temperature flux. Makes no sense.

BS. Something is wrong, something is draining the battery and the dealer here in Tucson, in writing, said the battery was covered under warranty.

I would make sure that you have checked the turn vehicle off, when you leave it and if you lock it, even in your garage, it turns everything off.

Yeah.. we've got basically the same temperatures... actually mine are worse... we get more days per year under freezing than you and many more days over 100F than you (like 60 or more every year). So there's no way a battery they regularly put in cars going to Scandinavia and the Middle East as well is failing due to the "temperature swings" in Austin.

Looks like this last week you had highs in the low 70's and lows in the mid 40's... exactly the same as we had here. Pretty much the least difficult weather for a battery actually... if you lived in N. Dakota I could almost buy that excuse (but it would still be BS).

Toyota made it a point to ask during their survey if the shut down procedure was explained when purchasing the car. If they didnā€™t explain this and you go to corporate, you may be able to get them to pigeonhole them into getting your money back.

I had a Tacoma get a battery replaced with <100 miles left on the warranty. Best thing was they found the issue on inspection and replaced it then and there. I was only told when I picked it up.

I think it's ridiculous how many dealerships (at least until the last couple months) were sticking to $5K-10K markups due to the MKV's "halo car" status - then act like you bought a used Yaris when you need after-sale support of any kind. Definitely not "halo car" service that's for sure.

This is BS temp swings. I live in canada we get -30 to -40 in the winter and my car starts up fine with no issues. My past BMW never was plugged in or anything and was fine.

AustinGR-

Politely call the dealer tomorrow and explain you don't want to get an attorney involved or lemon law the car.

If they still don't budge... Call Toyota direct and explain the issue about having to lemon law the car and the daggers poor service.

If that doesn't help... Just send a certified letter to the dealer adding for it in writing as to the denial of warranty for the battery.

No guarantees... But it will help.
