I want to respond to this, but it's too early to scratch more than the surface. I'm actually a little bit concerned by the thread alone lol, but it's still vague enough to be okay for now. More than details, it's about not stepping on toes as everything is about politics.

It's also still very early on in general, but I'll add more as time goes on.

I see. Well thanks for what you have shared so far and can't wait to read the updates. Is it too early to put together a wish list so you can forward them to the higher ups?

^^ I’m fine with learning with learning A100 details in whatever time is the right time.

I don’t think anyone here wants to upset delicate politics in any way. We’re just enthusiasts and fans and cannot help but be as passionate as we are about what’s coming.

Personally I am interested in what the future A100 will shape up to be and sure, I think we all know it will have to be a hybrid of *some* kind whenever it’s released down the road. I have my own vague suspicions but I’m content with that much for now.

However at the same time I am very much interested in the A90 that is here right now! Especially in terms of the expanded hardware, additional trim levels and aftermarket support for it that I fully expect to grow in each such area respectively while it is actively in production.

So.... I’m just happy to be here and learn about the A90 and, on the side and in the distance, sure of course also the possibilities for an A100 : )

That and A100 seems to be a given now so that alone makes me happy for the long term future of the Supra!

Won’t the GR86 be a hybrid by 2025 as well since Toyota plans for all models having a hybrid trim by 2025? I think that’s a bigger deal than the A90/A100 going electric

Would this mean the GR86 will eventually become a 48V mild hybrid... which is still by its nature capable of using a conventional 6-speed manual transmission? Or might it become a full hybrid by then? Or would 2800lbs be impossible in such a configuration?

I hope it remains non-hybrid or only mild hybrid with the 6-speed manual for the 2nd gen at least.

This also makes me wonder about the future of the GRMN Corolla and Yaris GRMN with the AWD, manual transmission and 1.6L non-hybrid turbo three come 2025. It hasn’t even come out yet.

everything hybrid by 2025 doesn't necessarily mean there won't be legacy models carrying through like say the Corolla GRMN or GR Yaris; it just means newly developed platforms and models will be designed ground up as hybrid (like the new Sienna) or that there will at minimum be an option for hybrid in an existing platform until it is replaced.

Maybe, but the 2025 statement is/was strictly for Toyota vehicles versus shared projects as I understand it.
Since the Supra is shared too, and from the subtle hints I'm guessing the A100 will be shared with Mazda, there's no certainty then that the Supra will be hybrid.
I wonder what Mazda's version will be. The Vision we were thinking be the next rotary car?

If we're putting in requests, I'd like a targa roof . If possible in the 2023 refresh already ;)

Rumor has it the next RX is hybrid, but that doesn't necessarily mean Mazda is going to be the answer :)

Speaking of which, what would everyone here prefer? a V6 or a legacy design like an aluminum block inline 6? Is the latter design more important than the advantages presented by the former? Hypothetically speaking, let's say they make around the same power and have about the same head room.

Very possible, but I haven't heard anything about it. I've been stuck working from home for a while now, so kind of sucks as far as finding out new details on stuff, especially since right before that I was crazy busy with three simultaneous projects.

I6 of course, but if that means BMW involvement then I'll gladly take the V6.

^ Generally takes about 5 years, yes. But just because the A90 is set to end production then doesn't mean that whatever replaces it will instantly be available. It could also not happen at all given the current automotive climate, but hopefully that's not the case.

What if it was from another manufacturer? Is the most important thing that the engine is from Toyota versus design? What about the platform itself? Say the drivetrain was Toyota and platform was from someone else?
