Ya well I don't think this car is going to sell well to be honest. I'm only going to buy it if they sell it to me below invoice. I don't care if I have to wait another year for the next model also.
Dealers can try what ever they want. Go in the middle of the month, decline the first offer, give them the number you want, when they refuse walk out the door. They'll call you 100%. Wait a week, and by the end of the month they'll give you what you want so they can reach their monthly sales goal.
Toyota doesn't decide whether dealers can negotiate. Nor can they just "hike up" prices. This is a car. There are tons of cars and this is only special to some people because of nostalgia. On paper it's still an automobile. Wait till the second model year and when the hype train is gone, it'll...

Thanks for the info A7! I'm glad that everything is working out for all the members and enthusiasts in the Supra community. I never doubted Toyota.

He's talking about the m240i. 340 hp turbo i6 that does 0-60 in ~4.3 seconds. That's no slouch. It comes in around $45k base and is going to directly compete with the Supra in price.
Toyota gives every motor it works on a little kiss at the end of production. That convinces the little motor to work extra hard and reliably. Hope everyone can sleep easy now.
Regarding the reliability of BMW products,
Tada-san had this to say:
from that quote I assume they addressed the issue of reliability to a point where it's no longer a concern for Toyota.
