Got an oil change a little over 600 miles ago. After the oil change it was 1/4 below max.
Had a track day, drove it hard, check the oil again today and it is at max. Annoying.
I used Castrol Edge 0w-20 that neets or exceeds the ACEA C5 and API SN Plus recommendations.
Fuel level was one or two bars. Car went into limp mode and it gave me a power reduction warning, but said continue driving. Pulled into the paddock, restarted my car and all was fine. Scanned for codes and nothing showed up.
Reached out to Jackie Ding who tracks a Supra a ton and told him...
Happened to me once on track as soon as I hit a straightaway after a long right-hand sweeper. It is a common issue. Hasn’t happened to me on the street yet, though.
I’m not worried about this as much as I was at first. I guess the way I look at it now is like this… If the engine is reliable and strong, without any leaks, what’s more to ask for? If the price of a long lasting reliable engine is to top up with some fresh oil every so often, I’ll take that...
Thanks! This is the kind of advice I was looking for. I know the alignment could be thrown off after a very unforgiving track day but wasn’t sure what I should be looking for, and what would cause the alignment to go off.
Hopefully it isn’t bent, though lol.
Yeah, I’ll knock them both out at once. Thanks. So it’s normal for alignment to get whacky after an HPDE? Or did the shop that did my alignment beforehand not tighten components enough to prevent things from shifting? That was what I thought happened that should not have happened.
I got a track alignment a few days before my track day, car felt great and performed extremely well. On my drive home I noticed my steering wheel became slightly crooked to the left. Car tracks perfectly straight and still feels fine, but my OCD is killing me with this crooked steering wheel...
I stick with OEM stock filters for the best filtration. I don’t want to chance any extra dirt or contaminants entering the engine for little to no gains. I’ve had an engine go on me with cylinder scoring from who knows what, but it did have an afe dry filter on it.
That’s better than previously right? And I know what you mean. I always thought oil consumption was a very bad thing. First time going to a bmw engine and I’m told it’s normal lol.
I'm definitely not burning 1 quart every 500 miles. Don't say anything about scored cylinders! That's my worst nightmare. Happened with an Audi I had . If it had scored cylinders, wouldn't the car perform bad, misfire, throw some codes or something? My car feels great.
Have you changed out...
Update: Oil went back to halfway after adding a quart about thousand miles ago. Total miles on vehicle is 5400.
Doesn’t seem to have slowed down unfortunately. Still using OEM spec 0w-20.
Man… thought map 3 was pretty safe. Sad seeing the JB4 causing engine failures. Guess that’s why people say to do data logging and have them checked.
I always thought map 4 & 5 was supposed to be better/safer than map 3. I see people from BMS tell people to switch to map 4 or 5 and do pulls. Now it seems people are blowing their engines by doing that.
I wouldn’t be surprised if corporate themselves are on here and searching social media for certain keywords. Let’s just say I had a very expensive claim denied as well because of something posted online.
What map was he on? I couldn’t see in that screenshot. Why did it ruin his engine? That’s...
