Just got all the parts for the 6spd swap…except for the trans. Waiting for my brand new V161 to show up. Sourced a new V161 from an ole’ friend overseas. Will have pics up this weekend.
The Z is a prettier car….time will tell if the mechanicals will hold up. If its a CD009, we at least know it will hold alot of power and torque. The engine and diff has yet to be put to the test, even though the it’s the same setup as a Q Red….they may do something slightly different for the...
The MKV Supra is built way better than a Z. The inline six in the MKV is a better motor for tuning and the engine bay is more suited for ease of wrenching. I am sure you know this, but Z’s (from 300ZX and on) are almost always an engine out affair when installing new turbos. The Z is a 100%...
If manual, every push in of the clutch on the Z will be a car length ahead for the Supra. If auto, it will be close. Either way, I think the Supra will have the edge. Now, a Nismo version….that will be interesting.
BMW’s have had this issue for years. We’ve talked to numerous BMW techs, and they all said the same thing….that the sensor is inconsistent with oil level readings.
Same with my brothers car….happened once and never again. Whether its a break in period or what I believe to be something with the way the sensor is reading the oil levels and the CAN system translating it to low oil, the issue has never happened again. When my brothers car had this issue...
Regardless who made it, my brothers car had this issue….then it didn’t. Nothing got “fixed” and nothing changed, except for oil brand. Are we saying that the factory oil is designed to burn? Probably not. If this was consistently happening over and over, id think otherwise. However, it did...
I’m pretty confident the MKV Supra doesn’t burn oil, and that the issue is related to the BMW oil level sensor. This sensor issue is across the board on all BMW vehicles, and the MKV Supra is no exception. Toyota spent numerous hours testing the MKV Supra pre-production, you guys think they...
My brothers MKV had the same issue….turned out to be the garage floor was at a slight angle. He also switched to Motul 300V….not sure if that may have helped. No more low oil level indicator.
Is your car sitting at a slight incline or decline where it’s parked? BMW’s use a stupidly sensitive oil level sensor that if your car is on the slightest incline/decline it will trigger the light. Get it on a level ground, and test again.
The Supra has a better motor and trans than the upcoming Z. I’ve owned numerous Z’s in the past, and one thing I can tell you is that in terms of modding, they hit mechanical limits quickly. The MKV Supra has proven to be very stout mechanically with mostly stock components. So, if your...
