I think they are yanking our chains in general, it is all to build hype and generate discussion. According to our insider curb weight for the top hipo/GR spec should be very competitive, potentially near the 86's weight, which is feasible since it is going to be a smaller 2 seater. Tada-san's...
lol so you're going to tell me their chassis and driving/handling dynamics are even remotely similar? you're paying for the chassis with the 86 and you're paying for forced induction on the WRX...not sure how much more apples to oranges you can get.
they may have shed weight, but they still don't handle like a go-cart since all muscle cars & the corvette have power as a priority over virtually everything else, something almost nearly every true sports car out of Europe & Japan never had... Power seems to resonate so much more with...
correction, muscle cars & corvettes sell well in America, partly due to fleet sales...beyond that no sports car sells "well" in any market currently, they are all niche and limited. The 86 still does well in tougher markets...if I remember correctly, the 86 was the best selling RWD coupe in...
consumers, specifically enthusiasts, are definitely the trickiest crowd to appease..
..but it does bring up a big point, very few Japanese sports cars have truly resonated with people outside of Japan. Sadly nothing has ever matched the success the D3 have had with their pony cars + corvette...
I'm giving it a chance. If it weighs near the 86, 335 will be plenty even at that price figure..and remember this is just the HP, I imagine torque to weight ratio should be huge. Having no stick will be a huge let down, yes, but I can still accept it as long as the trans doesn't auto upshift...
I agree that this can be and has been done, but what would they be shipping from Japan for this project? The door skins? All the main mechanical components are nearly a lock from BMW, no rumors or insiders have said otherwise.
you did see the Toyota's tweet right? Supra is the only real "legend" that this F&F generation remembers. Plus all the conversations with Tada and other execs, Supra is the only name that has ever come up. Too late now.
like I said though, the engineering is totally different...none of those cars you've mentioned were necessarily designed from the ground up to be a great handler with a small engine. Plus it is very difficult to compare the 86 to the STi/Type R/Focus RS/Golf R, etc..coupe/RWD enthusiasts don't...
it was both along with countless of other problems...the power issue has a lot of different facets to it and it would only exponentially make the car more expensive and less desirable in those respective classes hence why Mazda has not done any high power variant with their Miata besides the...
sure but I would be quite surprised if the Supra's cargo capacity is larger than the 86's with the backseats folded down. The 86 can carry a respectable amount of stuff especially if you have the spare + tools out of the trunk.
