  1. Is Toyota working on a new MR-2?

Actually given the trend towards more than one automaker besides just Toyota doing collaborations for their niche sports cars, I'd be fine with this. The S660 is a great car and I do wish we could get it as-is in the U.S. but I think it would have to be an enlarged, scaled up or beefed up...
  2. All-new 2023 Nissan Z makes world debut!

^^ Beautiful S14!! I remember when these were new in the showrooms in 1997 and 1998. I saw one that was a display model at my local dealer. I loved it visually but even at that time I knew it was missing the Silvia variant’s 2.0L SR20DET and better manual trans. And this dealer wanted $28k...
  3. Is Toyota working on a new MR-2?

I can see how a $100k++ supercar-MR2 can make a case for Toyota's cutting edge high end hybrid or bleeding edge EV technology... but that would create the same attainability problem as with new GTR's: the vehicle has shifted into a different kind of vehicle for a different kind of buyer than it...
  4. All-new 2023 Nissan Z makes world debut!

^^ THIS. Extremely long overdue. Where is Nissan's performance 2+2 coupe driven at the rear wheels that isn't a $100k++ R35 GTR? And it needs a manual transmission as well, please. That said I'm very glad they have given the Z another generation done properly. That alone is amazing.
  5. Updated GR Yaris with Automatic debuts at Tokyo Auto Salon

Open deck after all... dang. Okay, well... here's hoping it can be tuned a bit beyond its stock output, high as it already is for a 1.6L 3-cyl. And that catalyst is right up against the turbocharger which is very common these days but certainly is tight. Everything seems to be maximized for...
  6. Updated GR Yaris with Automatic debuts at Tokyo Auto Salon

If that 3-cylinder turbo engine has a closed deck design, forged crankshaft, relatively strong rods and hypereutectic (ie: cast but semi-forged) pistons from the factory I'll be happy. I think forged pistons might be a bit difficult to manage in a modern Toyota production engine that isn't on...
  7. All-new 2023 Nissan Z makes world debut!

I rather like the looks. Given the use of the existing platform and the challenges of packaging, crashworthiness, etc. I feel they pulled off a really nice look at the front and rear. The 1969 240Z inspired front and 1990 300ZX rear are both timeless classic designs and I was very curious to...
  8. 👣 Official: Toyota Announces Manual Transmission Supra!

That STI 6-speed manual box is excellent. However it would only work on an AWD front engine vehicle where that engine is relatively short (and probably only four cylinders). Even the 2nd gen 86/BRZ will most likely continue to use the Toyota TL70 (modified Aisin AZ6) 6-speed box.
  9. 👣 Official: Toyota Announces Manual Transmission Supra!

Yes. And since the platform was designed with at least one manual variant at launch (BMW Z4 2.0T manual 197hp for Germany) both companies left themselves a pathway to other manual variants. According to A70 a long while back there was some manual Supra prototype being tested before the first...
  10. 👣 Official: Toyota Announces Manual Transmission Supra!

As someone who regularly drives with a beefy but by today’s standards “crude” R154 manual with a twin-plate clutch I’m fine with a beefy manual slightly short of 100% perfection. If anything I hope they can tune the ECU software to drastically minimize any rev-hang. I agree that it is a very...
  11. 👣 Official: Toyota Announces Manual Transmission Supra!

^^ Thank you for this update. I hope this is just a temporary bump in their testing... or a matter of subjective opinion. This is the last generation Supra that can have a manual, so... if BMW can continue to offer one in the M3/M4 and 2 Series then Toyota should be able to as well. Thank you...
  12. The A70TTR Dedication Thread!

A70, thank you for the update! I’m just glad to know you’re doing all right and are as safe as you can be health wise. Being busy at this time with many projects is good if very all-consuming. I know you’ll be around from time to time again. For now, I hope you can make the best of your...
  13. The Lexus LC500 & LC500h, Plus LC-F Talk

^^ This. They had likely put so much development into the LC F by the time they froze work on it that there was only so much work left to approve and spend on anyway. Probably it can only be produced for a few years after which it would be discontinued anyway once emissions, sound and fuel...
  14. The Lexus LC500 & LC500h, Plus LC-F Talk

They’re going ahead with it after all then!
  15. The MKIV vs MKV Thread

^^ I agree with you about the MKIV. I’ll get some actual driving time in an MKV before long for a firsthand comparison but already I am very impressed with its chassis considering it’s got a shorter wheelbase than before. The MKIV is old technology and design all around but very good old...
  16. The MKIV vs MKV Thread

I agree with the reviewer with glasses in the above video about the stock MKIV TT 6-speed being just a very fun and engaging car to drive that can even be a little bit on the edge of scary under certain conditions. I also agree with his point about the JZ having somewhat violent acceleration at...
  17. Toyota S-FR concept

That’s sad. No business case for it at all, then even though it’s a near production ready platform and design. Even making it a flagship Japan-only Daihatsu model would be better than shelving it.
  18. All-new 2023 Nissan Z makes world debut!

This is the unfortunate truth and a big reason that the Supra MKV was pushed into its first-year introduction for MY2020 rather than later. But if the 400Z goes on sale for MY2023 then it will still have a couple of years before those regulations tighten on it partway through its production run...
  19. Toyota Presents World Debut of the New 2022 GR 86

I hope this edition keeps the option for four-piston brakes up front and two piston brakes in the rear. Even in a 200-220hp NA car that’s as much prerequisite for me as is a true mechanical LSD (with or without any “active” control to it).
  20. Toyota Presents World Debut of the New 2022 GR 86

It looks a bit Lexus RC-ish. I kind of like it.
