IMO, no, not even close.
My contact in SE Asia is adamant their SZ-R is 4cyl, but I think we're going to have a different setup in the US as Jeff said.
If they don't bring that 3070lb car to market with the 6cyl, then I'm not interested unless the 3350lb car has 400+ hp. Even then, price is...
Always good insights, Jeff, and I suspect you may be right as we look to the past for trends.
Even the A70 had completely different trims in the US vs Japan and elsewhere.
They are all turbo, but I'm thinking that RZ better have 380+ hp. I expect the SZ-R to be lower power like 335...
There is some conflicting info outside of my sources that say the SZ-R is a 250hp 4cyl turbo and that SZ is a 185hp 4cyl, but that makes zero sense to me for two reasons. Why design...
Calty designed the FT-1, but I am unsure to what sort of involvement they had with the production car. The two are obviously very different despite cues.
I think the argument is something like this:
Accountants/forecasters: zOMG, we need the 4cyl to appeal to green customers and those that want good mpg...
The rest of Toyota: Dear God, no, I will do anything in my power to keep that and the Gazoo name off our shores.
now that this information has apparently been dispersed to marketing teams worldwide, some of the new info circulating is as follows (subject to change but unlikely):
SZ - 4cyl
SZ-R - 6cyl, 3070lbs
RZ - 6 cyl 3350lbs
starting price for SZ still appears to be $40,000USD
Just heard a rumor that this car may make an appearance at a certain tradeshow this October/November.
Wonder if it's gonna debut officially there... Hm.
