I agree with this and have feared for a while that this would be the case. Toyota needs to understand that a Lexus sports sedan is NOT the same thing as a Supra. Even an RCF is a different customer base with it's 467hp V8 and 4000lb+ weight. I have a 2014 IS350 F Sport. It's a GREAT car and...
Perfect, let the accountants decide what makes a good car. Great news for me, I can save my money. Guess the countdown for the next 86 will begin in October if the accountants don't screw that one up.
Again, not saying they're not.... but "for logistical purposes" as Haros put it, doesn't seem like a good explanation for why they would opt to ship engines from Japan.
What kind of logistics are you referring to? If they don't use BMW engines, that means shipping engines from Japan to Austria. Not that they can't do that, but logistically it seems to make more sense to just drop in whatever BMW wants to ship up there for the Z4.
Their naming lineage is so screwed up at this point it doesn't matter, but the 86 goes back to the AE86 Corolla (I'm sure you know this, I'm just going back the start here). The Corolla was below the Celica so it would make sense for a Celica to slot in above the 86. My opinion is there already...
Just read that the name Celica was trademarked on August 31. http://www.thedrive.com/sheetmetal/14353/toyota-files-for-a-trademark-on-celica
I think they just love screwing with us.
Agreed
Still not sounding good for the manual though.
He does sound like an idiot and the video is 100% useless. I steer with my knees all the time though.
The problem I have with the Jalopnik render, aside from being very ugly, is that it looks like they're including the fake "shelf" at the bottom of the front bumper of the mule that looks to be part of a camo piece.
Nothing's wrong with TRD, but their current scope of trucks and Nascar doesn't align as well with the Supra. They have a great history, but it seems like Gazoo Racing is the new group doing all of the fun stuff.
Not to discount TRD at all
I'd rather see GRMN over TRD on a car like this, but I agree, we won't see that name here. Would be cool to see though as kind of a Cayman GT4 competitor package.
They did that back in 2015 and it was pretty awesome. I sat in one when I was in Japan last year and loved it. Blows my mind that we don't get those here. 6-speed manual, ~300hp, nice looking RWD sedan; meanwhile the NA market is asking for a more aggressive looking Camry.
I considered putting together some images to explain, but like I said, I really don't care. I came to this thread because there is actual confirmation of a liftback, I'm not here to play your all's guessing game.
The placement of the cover makes me think the opposite - I would expect it to be more towards the front if there aren't any seats back there. I'm still expecting a 2 seater since it is Z4-based, but I don't really care either way.
