Just change it out or sell it. You have the #1 symptom for an early model car with a plastic pump of no or sporadic oil measurement attempts. This is a stupid question, but how do you know if your oil pump is failing.
I have a 2020 unit, and this afternoon it showed low oil after 3000 miles, asking me to top up 1 quart , during this time, it refused to do the full measurement and stopped around 20%, and just said oil at minimum level, top up 1 quart.
I filled it, and then when i tried to measure after, it couldn't complete/go beyond 21% for like more than 7 times.
In the evening, i tried to measure, and it suddenly did, and i tried again the next morning after going for some spirted driving. It refused to after the drive, but completed it again after letting it cool down for 15 mins.
When the test is going on, i could hear a whirring sound at the back, which i imagine is the sound of the oil pump, pumping.
Now im kind of lost as too whether i should replace it now, or wait until its starting to fail, and im wondering what does starting to fail sound like (as from what i read, its a disaster if it fails). would be accurate that i would hear the oil pump whirring sound if it was failing during a normal drive as it would need to work hard to maintain oil pressure?
Is there signs in terms of codes, sounds, notifications etc etc? Im thinking of going to a shop to measure oil pressure as i dont have an obd.
