Going back to what’s been mentioned a couple times above with the DTC60/30 set up, why did you chose the 30 over the HP+? The HP+ may not have the heat range of the 30, but it does have a MUCH more consistent mu over its range.
I tried those long long ago and finally started driving fast enough to cook em. Give them a try :) They might be just fine if you are just starting the sport. I don’t know the physics behind the numbers. However I did meet a really cool race team owner back in the day. Became good friends, got to know all the drivers, etc. No thought was involved. They just told me what to do. I gladly took their advice. They had me start with Hawk Blues. Which they don’t even make anymore. But it was a good start, above HP+. Eventually, they moved me up to their DTC compounds.

So it wasn’t just buy the best pads. They worked me up progressively with my driving skill. I remember never thinking I’d need a DTC compound, but here I am. Other brands do the same thing and have some great pads, no doubt. I’m using Hawk because of the bang for the buck for our car and my long history with them. They’ve served me well.

I haven’t touched the HP+ in over 10 years. I use to use them as front pads when drifting.
Hawk black front with dtc60 rear has been my combo for the last three years of track driving.
But as you also mentioned, burning up the HP+ is my concern. The only numbers I was able to find specifically for our chassis, on rotor temps, is from Verus’s brake cooling trial video, but this was only front temps. Front calipers temps were around 350f and rotor temps were around 750f, which is def flirting with the HP+ upper limit. But, since roughly 70%ish of braking is done with the front maybe the rears are more reasonable.
Would be nice if we just had DTC60 rears to match the fronts to call it a day hahaha

You can still buy Hawk blues...I have a set for my LeMons Mustang as a failsafe if I can't find anything else. That being said, run Hawk Blues when there is no other viable option. They are atrocious when cold, the dust will rust on your wheels in about 5 minutes, and they don't last all that long. It's really an OLD pad. My first set of real track pads were blues, and that was nearly 20 years ago. They were an old pad 20 years ago.

hahha same. The experience made me stay away from Hawk pads ever since.

I’m shocked they still make em. That’s about when I got into the sport. 20 years ago they were the training pad of SCAA 😂 I thought they were so badass back then, LOL. I had my HP+ pads and they were such an upgrade. Of course moved up to DTC compounds and now full circle back - back on em. I’m glad we have so many options for this Supra!

I’m up 13 mph in the straight at Palmer compared to last year on stock power and still have zero issues with the Project Mu Club Racer brake pads. Great price, great track performance. YMMV depending on your local track.

What software are you using? Is that the catalyst?

Hi everyone,

Love the information but I'm honestly confused at what would be most appropriate for street & HPDE 2 use. I frequent NJMP lightning & thunderbolt and have been running the stock brake setup for 5 track days so far without issue. I was recommended to upgrade my stock brake pads, fluid, and lines. What would be an appropriate setup for my use? I am currently running 275/295 35 19 tire setup with Michelin Pilot Super Sports, but will likely upgrade to a more track-focussed tire in the future. Thanks for all the advice!

It’s really about religious maintenance, visual inspection and feel on track. If you’re a race team, you’ll change the brake pads and bleed your fluid after each race. But since we’re doing this for fun = not going as fast or tracking for hours on end, we can get by with extended use.

As you get faster and upgrade your tires, you’ll benefit from upgraded brake pads. Project Mu, Endless or Hawk would be the next obvious step up. Any DOT4 fluid will suffice if you bleed em often and change it after each track season. If you want to upgrade your brake lines, Turner motor sports has a bunch to choose from, preventing expansion.

I dual drive (track and street) on Hawk DTC 60/30 brake pads. They are fantastic. Lots of dust. But you’ll have no problems stopping on track or in town. As for brake fluid, Castrol SRF has the highest wet temp, so it’s my personal fave. But there’s no exact right or wrong. Lots of great options for our Supras.

Glad you’re enjoying the sport & welcome to the club!

Maybe start with the DOT4 fluid (Castrol SRF, Motul RBF600 -- I think, pls correct me if I'm wrong, and Endless RF660 are the ones commonly mentioned), since the brake feel will change. Once you're comfortable with less sponginess, Hawk, Endless, CSG, or Project Mu pads would be a good next step.

Do be prepared for some squeakiness on the street when cold and a lot more brake dust, if you aren't already aware.

I feel like information about brake pads on this platform is really lacking so I decided to start this list and chart.

I'm starting with track-worthy pads first as that is where I feel there is less information shared. I will continue to update this as I find more pads. If you know of pads not on this list, please let me know

It's been a challenge to track down Mu (coefficient of friction) charts for some of these pads, so for those, I do have their average Mu numbers and I extrapolated from there. The G-loc pads look promising but I only found single Mu numbers for them so far. If anyone knows more, please let me know!

The list is in most aggressive to least. The chart is by when I added them. Hope this helps people!

Price and availability is a good start. If you change your brake fluid more often it’ll take longer to get to the wet temp side of the chart. I like Castrol SRF since the wet temp is so high. But it really doesn’t matter as much as bleeding or changing the fluid does.

I like Hawk DTC pads. But Endless, Project Mu, & CSG sound like solid choices from what most have said. I’d get the most aggressive track pad you can afford. Don’t buy a hybrid track and street pad. Waste of money imo. You’ll brake just fine in town on a dedicated track pad and have the repeated stopping power you need on track.

Hi friends,

How much brake fluid should I buy to make sure there’s enough to properly bleed the system?
