Hello evreyone i Currently have supra downpipe tune but I'm currently in the process of doing a custom tune and bellow I will attach the data logs to read if anyone can help but my question is my tuner sent me a revision for the tune and I'm looking at the knock retard cylinder 1-6 and it was showing up to -6 degrees knock on all cyldners and then the lastest revsion he sent there is 0 knock all around on WOT but their car feels so much slower so my question is, is 0 degree knock what most custom tuners they sacrifice power for the engine longevity or what I've also heard is some add 1-2 degrees of knock to give more power but someone please explain to me better if I should stay somewhat slower at 0 degrees of knock or ask to turn it up a bit more with knock and also is negative knock bad or good I never had positive knock, just negative Also, this is a flex fuel tune but we are on 93 right now we haven't moved up yet.

Here are the data logs labeled knock and no-knock:

"Knock retard" means the engine timing, how early the spark plug fires, becomes more conservative. In other words: to eliminate the knock and preserve the safety of the engine, the car fires each cylinder's spark plug 6 degrees of crank rotation later than intended. You cannot add timing (earlier spark) to solve knock, so you'll never see a positive knock retard. That would called knock advance, and that would be a one-way ticket to a blown engine tbh.

0 knock is the only acceptable knock, imo. It would only get worse as engine temperatures rise through sustained driving, or if you move into the summer months and everything gets hotter.

Your tuner dialed back performance to prevent the engine from knocking. Whatever was in the old revision was too much for 93 octane, and the fuel was pre-igniting on its own without spark.

Your current tune is the proper tune until you add fuel that better resists auto-ignition.

Knock is a fun thing to deal with. Got to make a compromise between timing and boost and then worry about egt’s… takes a little tweaking to get the right combo. Let your tuner keep doing his thing until he says it’s done.
