Well, Toyota did make a sports car that fit that description, just not badge as "Supra", but badge as "LFA". Back in '11, LFA was compared with other sports car like Porsche, Ferrari, Lamborghini and so on. Pretty much got same kinda review as A80 Supra aka too expensive. Both LFA and GTR had bout same amount of hp. So in that view, why you're not buying LFA is my biggest question. The A80 made 20hp more than Corvette did in '93. The A90 makes 125hp less than Corvette in 2019. It was also compared to a 964 turbo and even Ferrari 512TR, not simply a Cayman. The A80 was also on par with GT-R horsepower, now its down by 230+. So yes, I'd say it hasn't drifted very far from its original performance relative to competition.
Oh one more thing, Japan had hp restriction, so all their sports car back in 90's (early '00) only had 280hp. This is why GTR, Supra, Rx7, NSX or any Japanese sports car back then only made maxed out at 280hp. Of course, that hp restrict didn't happen in US, so US Supra made 40 more hp. This is another reason why A90 Supra have low hp. Some countries have some hp classification that require extra tax (or something like that), so they focused on tq more than HP... so Tada-san claims.
