Hi all,

Let me describe the problem in bulletpoints:

- I own a July 2019 (production date) MKV
- I tuned the car with MHD, flashing an OTS map in April 2022
- All was grear after I got my car to the dealership for a small warranty fix. A recall has been done without me being informed, overwriting the ECU - August 2022.
- the ECU requires a bench unlock now
- I visited three tuners in my area, all of them profficient in bench unlocking BMWs but none of them could bench unlock the version of the software I have. The last one was using CMD platform, and from his user interface, it seemed like the "unlock" option in CMD was just not available. One of the tuners suggested that the ECU software is so new, that his platform still doesn't handle the bench unlock for it.
- I am located in Poland, with basically no tuners with Supra experience in the area.

Has anyone has similar experience? What could have been the reason for that? I'd appreciate suggestions on how to get the unlock done (considering my location)

Cheers!

This happened to me about a year and a half ago. I went in for a separate headlight lighting issue I was having and they flashed my ECU and locked it.

Had to send it to a company in Arizona to have bench unlocked again for ecutek - they did it fine but it was the last time I went to Toyota. Never again.

You can find a company to bench unlock. It’s possible

To my understading, the way to unlocking pre-06/2020 DME's is to use Autotuner and their "OBD Unlock Patch".

Sadly, I'm having the same problem here in my country (Norway). Finding a tuner with experience unlocking DME's.
So I'm looking at taking my car to Germany next year and getting it unlocked at a tuner close to Nurburgring that I know have experience with this.

Allright, so I am now half-way to becoming an expert on the matter.

First of all - not all platforms for ECU reprogramming provide good support and timely updates. CMD is relatively popular in Europe (Poland for sure), but is shitty when it comes to BMW's (confirmed by MHD support). You can read the recently updated Supra ECU with it, but does not allow for OBD unlock. It may be updated in some time, adjusting for the software changes introduced in the latest Supra ECU software.

Some tuners are also shit - Along my "bench unlock after recall" journey I met tuners that said that since they don't have an option to bench unlock the ECU with their platform, then it is not possible at all. When in reality they just have a shitty platform that does not keep up with manufacturers software updates.

My recommendation - call tuners and ask what reprogramming platform are they using. If you hear Autotuner or HEX, the tuner will be able to bench unlock your car. It is as simple as plugging the ECU to the platform and selecting an option on the platform's interface.
