I struggle to see this costing less than $500, but certainly under $1000, provided that the tie rod is the ONLY problem.

OP @SupraSteve1 , with the tie rod so bent for a time before it broke, didn't you notice the front end alignment being total crap? One normally can't bend a tie rod that severely and drive on it without the front toe being quantifiably out of whack.

I guess you could go with fronts to the rear, and rears the front. ?
I wonder if the rear wheels can clear the front calipers on the 3.0L? One of the reasons why some cars don’t get donuts is because it just confuses the driver what to do when the donut does not clear the calipers.

They can. Its the struts they dont clear. Coilovers would let you run rear wheels all around.

Not a Corvette.

Would be pretty close.

$120 part
$250/hr shop time (anyone that takes longer than 1hr to install a tie rod with a lift is scamming you.)
$150 alignment

$520 total

hell, let's say MSRP for the part

$157 part
$250/hr shop time (anyone that takes longer than 1hr to install a tie rod with a lift is scamming you.)
$150 alignment

$557 total

I guess I forgot tax.

$50 for 9% sales tax = $607 total

$4,393 less than $5,000

It was in for routine oil change service a couple of months ago, so I guess it may have been on a lift for the tires to be rotated
Maybe they put the lifting block under the tie rod when lifting the car since most blocks are to high to go between the lift and the chassis. No way that could bend like that just driving out of your garage.

I believe Toyota are quoting me for the entire power steering rack assembly, which is a $2000+ part. The other Sid etie rod and everything else looks good

Car was driving perfectly last time when put away in garage, but assuming the tie rod may have been severely fractured then, then the last bit finally separated when backing out of the garage. It backed out OK, but literally moving a few fee I noticed a major steering issue, as the RH wheel turning OK, but not the LH. Couldn't really see anything wrong as difficult to see under there. Managed to back it into garage, and continued to move steering wheel, then no steering to the LH when at all. Guess that is when it finally broke completely.

Hey Steve, what was the end result of all of this?

Case is now in the hands of lawyers. Will post once a settlement has been reached.
Good deal man. I feel for you, this whole situation blows for all parties involved. I hope everything works out for you and this will be a headache you can laugh about in ten years.

My steering rack failed on my POS lol, sitting dead with barely any steering while toyota finds me a rack, back ordered to hell and back. FML. can't wait for my manual. my 2020 is such a piece of cheese, (no pun intended) if it isn't broken due to a quality issue, it is rattling itself to death. I expected issues with stuff I modified, but nope, wheel bearings, driveshafts, oil sensors, speakers, interior stuff, and now a steering rack. Good luck OP

Possible someone else drover your car, nailed a curb, and was afraid to tell you they hurt your baby? It drove home fine, a few days went by and nothing happened, so they thought they were OK. Ignorance being bliss... Even the guys at the oil change place could have done this.

I’ve read this whole thread but can’t remember, did anyone mention this as a potential culprit? This was from the NHTSA website
